Which one should I refresh first

I have a dilemma and need your input. My dad bought this 1000 new in March of 1977. It has about a gazillion hours on it mostly from my sisters and I mowing grass. It is not as shiny as I would like. It runs great, engine mounts are relatively new and the clutch is sound. I rebuilt the engine about 15 yrs ago and it was parked in the barn because my sister preferred the Simplicity. Should I make it pretty again....
OR
Take this little 72 that has seen it's better days and rebuild it. This 72 is like the first Cub Cadet my father purchased in 1968 or 1969. I learned to drive on one like this. I want to have a commemorative plaque and dealer stickers made for each of the tractors with my fathers name. Should be fun! OK guys help me decide which project to start first.:beerchug:

IMHO, I'd restore the 72 first. :beerchug:

The 1000 still looks good! Plus it has the original patina and the scars that you, your dad and sisters put on it!

In my opinion id leave it alone because it tells a story like it is..

Go for the 72 first!:biggrin2::biggrin2:

Just my thoughts... your tractors so it is your choice!:biggrin2::biggrin2:

Keep us posted!:beerchug:

Are you able to powder coat stuff with the correct shade of IH yellow or IH 935 white? You did a fantastic job on the wheels for the 800 and rear wheels for the 1000.

Why you no put this in a thread that is a poll so you can quickly tally the results?

Cub Cadet 123

i have a white that looks perfect compared to the case/ih paint, the cub yellow i have isn't perfect but its really.

Billy-O 09-13-2016 11:58 PM

I'd do the other one first!

zippy1 09-14-2016 12:18 AM

Holy smoke, your all around today like poop on a wheel...:biggrin2:
I start at the IH Tractors and move down, and here we are again... Go with the 72, for all the right reasons.:beerchug:

I was favoring the little 72 first too. It is like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of tractors

cubcadet 09-14-2016 07:44 AM

I would do the 72.

Cubcrazy 09-14-2016 07:55 AM

You know my choice Beth!:beerchug:

ambrola 09-14-2016 08:16 AM

I'm on the 72 wagon here. But I am prejudice when it comes to the older Cubs. :biggrin2:

I never thought it was such a bad little tractor. It's not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.

I am partial to the 7 horse tractors myself.

I vote 72 :beerchug:

cadzag72 09-19-2016 06:52 AM

72 gets my vote too, they are my favorite cub!

drglinski 09-19-2016 06:30 PM

I also do the 72, cuz the NFs are the best. :beerchug:

Sam Mac 09-19-2016 07:21 PM

Beth

Just my 2 cents but do the one that you like the best. Who cares what we think. :beerchug:

Age before beauty! Looks like the 1000 still has nice, original paint! Only original once, you know! Appears to me, the 72 deserves it's due, and plus, I'm partial to 72s, ha!

Thanks everyone for your votes. The 72 was the clear winner for restoration. The process has begun! It is in terrible condition...but with some love and a boatload of money this little guy will, hopefully, be functional again. :beerchug:
Just waiting on a PTO pulley puller from Jeff In PA.

ACecil 09-30-2016 11:48 AM

Great news! Looking forward to your progress on the 72.

jaynjeep 09-30-2016 07:52 PM

Awesome! I just let a friend talk me out of my beloved 72 last week.. I swear it was the smoothest running tractor I had. Kohler really got the balance right on the K161 and K181's!:beerchug:

Keep us posted!:beerchug:

zippy1 10-01-2016 12:35 AM

Excellent.:beerchug: Going to enjoy the restoration of the 72.:beer2:
Need to start a thread now.
