Hurricane Matthew

I'm not liking the latest forecast on this one.

Me either, Sam. Looks like it won't be that far from us.
|
Yeah this is getting old. Would take the "S" word any day over what's headed our way. I've been a few down here, 04 was rough. Charlie was no joke at 100 mph winds and that was a Cat 3. This ones stronger. Sucks, I mean blows, literally.

For all you guys along the coast be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.

Winter in PA doesn't seem so bad compared to hurricanes and tornadoes, good luck to all those in the path.

Same for MI. |
Yep... I agree... even if it just brushes the east coast we are in real trouble! We are only 45 miles inland... not enough to be out of the wrath
|
That's amazing! My wife and I were just in S.C last week, for 5 days. September 1st. there was another hurricane going on before we left for Grande Dunes Marina
Inn. Hold on tight guys! Got agree with Olds on this one. Love the four seasons here in N.E Ohio! |
You wouldn't believe how nice the weather has been the last 2 days, a little overcast in the morning but otherwise gorgeous weather--definently the calm before the storm. I'm about 3 hours from the coast so hurricanes generally only give us a bunch of rain unless they turn inland. Then we get a real mess with wind damage. Lets hope we just get some (or none) rain.
|
Looks like Matthew is going to move away from NC. The coast may still get some wind and rain.

Stay safe in the SE! |
Hope you guys in Florida and on the east coast fare okay through this. Prayers from Michigan be with you.
My son is in Wilmington NC so I'm watching you Matthew. Steve |
Deployed 2 Peterbilt sized Command vehicles and 2 SUV/Rabbit vehicles to support any Comm failures that may happen on the east coast.... Has to be on a holiday weekend too.... Go figure.

Well, the wife and I hadn't had a vacation in several years so about 6 months ago we planned a trip to St. Augustine Florida for the first week of October.
We rented a little beachfront house and arrived on Saturday but kept an eye on the forecast. We did some pretty cool site seeing stuff but Matthew kept building and we didn't want to get stranded. We made the decision to head back home on Wednesday. The gas stations were crazy on the way back but luckily I fueled up Tuesday night. It sucks that our vacation was cut short but I really feel bad about all the destruction and lives lost from this monster storm. We already talked about going back next year. St. Augustine is such a beautiful place with tons of history and some very friendly people. I pray that this storm misses land and dies at sea. |
I was riding the Blue Ridge Parkway yesterday with some friends. Two of them live in Jacksonville. They had planned on doing the whole BRP but had to cut it short and are heading home.
|
How about some of you guys along the coast checking in? I'm guessing Alvy and Oak are in the clear, unless this thing does a u-turn and hits them again early next week--I haven't checked the forecast lately but that appeared to be what it was going to do.
I know Alan and CSX are getting hammered right now. We've already got close to 5" rain an the wind is getting up. Not expecting major damage here, possibly some scattered power outages. Eastern NC will most likely get some flooding, lets hope and pray this doesn't turn in to another Floyd (major flooding close to 20 years ago). |
Luckily the eye stayed off the coast for us. We had sustained winds 50 to 60 mph for quite a while but all is well for us in the center of the state. Those on the coast were not so lucky. Prayers for all that are affected.
|
I'm back home and we didn't get anything from the storm and actually need rain pretty bad here. My wife's family is in Florence, SC and they got heavy rain and lots of flooding there.
|
I'll share an e-mail between Allen and I earlier today.
Hey Sam, We are doing well. The flooding is very bad. The back of our house where it's lower is flooded. My tractor shed has flooded. Our neighbor had to leave his house. Our power and internet is out. Hopefully, things will get better soon! Thanks for thinking of us! Allen On Oct 8, 2016 2:52 PM, Sam wrote: AC Just wondering how you and Jenn are doing? CSXengr checking in. We are all ok down here in the Sandhills. Lots of trees down tons of folks without power and several roads flooded. My pool fence got blown out. Other than that just a ton of water around here.
|
Just an FYI about the aftermath in eastern, NC. Lot of flooding, just watched on the news a Coast Guard rescue crew plucking folks from their rooftop. Floodwaters are still rising as the water makes its way downstream. Considering Alan reported to Sam his neighbors had already had to evacuate and his backyard was flooding earlier yesterday, this gives me concern. For those not familiar with hurricanes, its an incredibly sunny day here, a bit breezy though--amazing how a storm that bad can give way to beautiful weather the very next day.

Just tried to call Allen. I left him a message. Maybe he will let us know. The Raeford/ Fayetteville area was hit hard so they probably don't have power. There have been several dams blow out and I-95, I-40 and US 70 closed down east. Very bad!!
|
Hope all fellow enthusiasts are ok!!!
|
Allen just text me. They are staying with friends. They have not power or internet. His house flooded but water has gone down now. From all the reports it may be a week before they get power. He said to let everyone know he really appreciates our thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the update Gary! I saw Jenn's pics from the other day and haven't seen any updates since. Hope everything dries out OK for the Cecil's! I have been a little worried!
