149 getting some TLC
 

Now that the weather is cooling off I decided to get off my lazy butt and get started on some issues with my 149. Trans linkage is shall we say sloppy at best. It also has a leak that I'm pretty sure is the infamous cork gasket. Haven't run it since the spring when I tilled the garden, put a battery in it, turned on the gas and the old girl fired on about the 2nd turn, unbelievable. It's up on the lift and ready to work on.

Fix the tranny linkage and the leaking cork gasket.

Seat is just fine, I only use the 149 to till the garden. It has the Super Exclusive IKEA seat cover and that is covered with a Generic seat cover. All good in the tushy dept.

This one is all about the go and not about the show. :beerchug:

It COULD be about the show, just saying..... I mean after all, you got to take the rear all the way out, and clean it up just to replace a $3 gasket. Now if you were to go ahead and apply some paint and decals, it won't seem like near as much work.:BlahBlah::BlahBlah: You're right about the show, I wouldn't waste time on blacking the tires, they'll just get dirty next spring.:biggrin2:

How in the heck do you spend all winter indoors watching daytime TV? Besides, if you stay in front of the computer all day, how are we gonna stir up any mischief?:bigthink:

Sorry guys but this one only gets used for maybe an hour a year. Start it, till the garden and store it till next year. No reason to get carried away making it pretty. Honestly I could live with it as it is. :beerchug:

Well at least spring for new roll pins in the driveshaft!:biggrin2:

Already modified the drive shaft. It's 1/2 2000 series at the engine end.

OK last try, at least put some rattle can primer on the new and improved driveshaft!
I'm starting to think we need to take up a collection of Cadet parts spanning about 40 years, ship them to you and see what you can piece together--kind of like a Johnny Cash Cadillac!:biggrin2:

Got into the 149 today, got the linkage pretty well sorted out. Trunnion just needed a couple washers to take up the slack. I expected to find it all worn out but it turned out to be in good shape. Waiting for some shim washers from McMaster to tighten up the pivots. Leak looks like it coming from the suction tube so I think I dodged a bullet, not going to pull the rear for the cork gasket at this point. Hope to have it finished soon and put away for the winter. :beerchug:

It's all back together. The shim washers worked out great. No more slop. If any of you need some let me know. I have 9 of the 5/8" ID X .031 thick and 9 of the 1/2" X .031 thick. Had to buy a pack of 10 each. :beerchug:

A couple updates on the 149.

1st I had a 1641 that I decided to give to my step son but I wanted to swap the 48GT deck on the 1641 to my 1864 that had a 46GT deck. The 1641 had a set of JD wheels on it that for some reason had longer wheel studs so I was able to use a 3/8" thick spacer to make them clear the brake calipers. Well the tire hit the 46GT deck so I had to do a wheel swap with the wheels on the 149. I ended up buying some 3" long studs and chrome lug nuts, gotta have chrome lug nuts, LOL from McMaster for the 149. That worked out well plus I got rid of the stupid bolts (see pic of studs on the 149).

2nd update was the linkage for the hyd lift was sloppy, the 1/8" spirol pin had been replaced with a cotter pin by the PO. Looked at it and decided I didn't feel like taking 1/2 the tractor apart for a crappy pin so I welded it. Problem solved in about 10 minutes.

Now I just need spring for some Tru-Powers for the 18/2264. :beerchug:

I had to read that twice and really the only thing I'm sure of is that you welded the hyd linkage. :biggrin2:

No pics but I put a washer behind each of the snap rings in this drawing.

Sam, I like what you did to your engine coupling. I just so happen to have a 2000 series drive shaft from a tractor I parted out. How did you do the modification? Is the solid shaft welded into the hollow one, or is it slid up inside and held in with a pin? I'd like to make this mod to my narrow frames to get rid of the stock coupling. :beerchug:

Lance I just slide the stock shaft into the 2000 shaft, marked it, drilled it and stuck a spirol pin in it. 1st pic is what I cut off 2nd pic is with the pin installed.

Used the Old 149 today to till Mama's new garden, or should I say rock garden. Poor old girl earned her keep on this one.
