Advice needed
I am rehabbing a cat 0 brinly plow. The surface of the plow bottom is rusted and pitted what is the best way to prepare the surface for use. I concidered a grinder, sanding disc but I do not want to make it worse. I am sure if i used it it would polish up but I do not have any where to plow.

I sandblasted my plow and painted the white parts with good paint, the rest of it I used aerosol epoxy and aerosol black krylon. When I took it to the first plow day the paint wore off and it shined like chrome in about 15 minutes, after I was done plowing I put a bag over the white and sprayed some black on the plow to keep it from rusting.

Tim I know if I use it it will polish up. I am not going to use it. I want to sell it. I guess I could paint it but I was hoping to get it all shined up.
|
When I did mine I cleaned it real good with a wire wheel, polished it up with a little sandpaper, and just put some olive oil on it. It sat for a few years in the barn without rusting, until the stupid cat peed on it:bash2:

Got any dirt roads nearby? My brother shined up his little genius #8 plow pretty good by setting it almost down to the stones and rode up and down it a few times. Apart from that just plowing....

I sold several plows last year. I used a sanding flap disc to remove the rust. Them I gave a coat of Pam cooking spray and wipe the extra off.

They don't come up for sale down here very often either. Four years ago Deere had them listed on their site in the $625 range. I guess lack of demand caused Brinly to stop production.
Jim Dimmerling was the builder of Wizard Plows but when I contacted him 4 years ago he wasn't building any more. They say his plows are built very well and plow great. Here are 2 of his plows. Attachment 81937 Attachment 81938 Does anyone make parts to build your own now? |
A couple years ago at PA plow day the Amish were asking me a lot of questions about the cost and demand for the plows they were talking about producing them. I never heard anymore about it. The last ones i saw they were asking $375.00 for one in original condition.

The shares are still available from Brinly, but you may have to call them.
Talked to one of their reps at Beaver Dam last summer. He said the 10" shares would be available for a few more years but when the patent agreement runs out that will likely be the end of them. I bought two 10" shares and one 12" share last summer from them. Not cheap! |
I finished up the plow yesterday. Now it goes up for sale or I might wait and take it to plow day, seems some one is always looking for one. Now the price is the question. These seem to be more scarce now than the past few years. One just sold on ebay for $305 in original condition and one currently listed for $385 without a coulter wheel.
