A Diffrent Tractor
I am thinking of buying this little thing just because it's so cute. :biggrin2: It is a Homelite mower with a 5hp engine. Only 100.00? What do you guys think?

What year were they made? Does it run? If you want it get it.

I'm a big fan of the oddball mowers. Anybody can own a Cadet, Wheelhorse, Deere, Bolens, Sears, etc., but those oddballs are a lot harder to find in decent shape as well as find info and spare parts on. I've seen a few different ones that looked in reasonable shape come up on CL in the last couple years, would love to have bought them but honestly do not have the time or space. The worst part I see about the oddballs, is you can easily sink more money into it than they would sell for to a collector.
Dad worked on one similar to the one you are looking at about 20 years ago, pretty certain it was a Homelite painted blue and white. Seems you just pulled a couple pins and the entire body lifted off the frame for servicing. |
Cute little sucker! Be fun to get it running and freshen the paint a little. It won't take much room in the shop!

Says they were made in the 60's. It looks like it's all there? Also has a Lauson engine. I have never heard of one of these? I am going to buy it and play with it. It's only a 100.00 and I think it would be fun to restore the little weirdo? |
I have the same one,,, except,,,
it is a hydro drive, and has a CAT 00 three point hitch,, I do have the 24" grader blade for the hitch,, I keep my 1/4 mile driveway graded with it,,, :bigthink: :Choke: Kidding aside,, a little paint,, you will have something to take to tractor shows,, |
For $100 I say go for it. I'm sure you can find info about it on Google. :beerchug:

This may help if you need parts, Tecumseh as far as I know is out of the engine biz. https://www.jackssmallengines.com/ja...turer/tecumseh Worst case you could probably re-power it. |

I H red it and decal it and it might fit into the fleet as a ultra rare one :biggrin2:... ( the JD guys make there stuff better by painting Cubs green ) . :bigthink:

My comment about the hydro version was in jest,,,
this is a pic of the smallest mower I own,,, it is only 8 horsepower,, but,, seems to do a LOT with the 8HP!! :bigthink: http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...ps998156ef.jpg Is the old paint stripped,,,, YET!!?? :biggrin2: |

decals, and everything,,, http://i1104.photobucket.com/albums/...psfytxsiw1.jpg OR,, was that the CC 2284?? :bigthink: :biggrin2: |
[QUOTE=ambrola;409257Think I should come up with a new color scheme? Like orange and white or something colorful? Or maybe just leave it red.[/QUOTE]
Strictly my opinion, but that machine is more rare than your average Cadet so I would put it back as close to possible to original, right down to the pin stripe. If you didn't want to paint it, just get it running, I doubt you'll have any trouble finding parts, plenty of guys collect old air cooled engines. I think we have one, maybe 2 Lauson's, but they are horizontal shaft engines. |
That's cool Ronnie. Is the guys Bolens a ride-o-matic? Those are neat little things too. I had a guy wanna trade an almost NOS Swisher original zero turn the other day for my 128 but I turned him down. It sat on a show room floor it's whole life u til the place closed down. You tube both if you haven't seen them, both are very small and unique. You got the bug bad these days Ronnie, good for you!
