Winter Project 126
7 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys. Here's my (new) 126 that was given to me by my neighbor. I plan to work on it over the winter and probably paint it in the spring. The paint is very rough and will need to be stripped. I'll also take the engine apart and have a machine shop measure it and do what is necessary for a rebuild. These are the (before) pictures.

Ole one eye looks good for a refurb. Already got a hitch and a plow bracket. Congrats. Mike:beerchug:
|
One Eye
Yep. I'll have to do something about that.
|
Looks like a good candidate for a refresh. Please keep us updated on the progress.:beerchug:
|
Refresh
Yes, it certainly needs a refresh. It's been sitting in his barn for about 15 years along with a 108 that's in sad shape. He's giving me that one also but I don't have a place to put it right now. But I'll be working on the 126 (slowly) over the winter and I will post progress pictures.
|
Looks like everything is there, will be a fun project.
|
Fun Project
It would be a lot more fun if I had a media blaster. I may have to make one. Sanding is not my favorite task.
|
Please keep us posted on your progress, and remember we like pictures.
|
Progress
Yep, will do.

Progress on the 126
5 Attachment(s)
Here are some pictures of the progress I'm making on the 126. I'm taking my time on this one because I want it to look show room fresh. I haven't started on the frame or the axle yet. I found the marble inside the frame rail. I'm guessing the P.O lost his marbles at some point.

Fender pan is badly scratched and dented. Hammer and dolly work, up to a point. The rest is filler. The dash console had a big piece missing, so I squared it out and took a piece of kydex plastic and expoxied it behind the open area. then I cut another piece to fit the opening and sandwiched it in. A little filler and it will be invisible after it's painted.

Some other fairly important parts.
Wheels are always so much fun to clean up. Gas tank, console support and hood.

Looks like I'll need a new wheel.

Sorry I’m late to this party. Looks like you’ve got a good start.
Keep it up!:beerchug: |
Party
Yep, I'm taking my time.

Looking good Z cub. Can you fix post number 12 for us?
|
Post #12
I would fix it if I knew how to do that. I will repost now with fewer pictures and make it two posts, maybe that will work.

Cleanup
I still have a lot more pieces/parts to clean and sand, which is ok because it's too cold to paint. And as I said in a previous pic, one front wheel is done. I'm looking for a replacement. I'll go over the wiring harness and decide if I need to buy a new one from Mike?

Model 126 Completed

Well, it took a little longer than I expected due to an extended winter that wouldn't allow painting. I finally finished it around the end of May, I just didn't get around to posting the pictures.
|
Nice!
May I ask? What color code is the yellow? |
Color Code
The paint is actually Rustoleum Gloss Tuscan Sun in spray cans.

Looks great!!

Very nice work! You getting it dirty or is it a trailer queen?
|
I hav'nt decided yet. I've been using my other 126 for mowing so far.
|
Thank you.
|
Very nice results with the rattle cans! Are you going to put a clear on it?
|
I have no plans for clear. I'm using Meguiars polishing compound for any dull spots. It clears them right up. And Meguiars Ultimate wax does a great job to protect the paint.
|
Oh my z cub that is a money finish right there and with rattle cans none the less great job. Rustoleum does have a good product but Does go to show that it’s all about the prep as well. Very thorough job
|
You're not kidding about the prep. I spent many hours during the winter cleaning and sanding. The painting is easy.
|
Looks good!
|
Thank you.
|
Really nice! I do like that yellow!
:beerchug: |
I took a look at a lot of different yellows in spray cans and that's the one that I think looks the best. And the beauty of spray cans is that you can touch up any damage fairly easily.
|
Sorry, I'm not going to be the guy who compliments you on a job well done.
Of coarse it's shiny and nice.... they paint is new. It clearly isn't the right color yellow. My whole thing is, why take the time to tear a tractor all down, sand it and paint the whole thing one part at a time, and not buy the right color paint? Or use something better to paint it than a rattle can? For the kind of money a can of rattle paint costs, you could have bought at least Case IH Ironguard paint and used a $25 HVLP gun form Harbor Freight and done just as good. At least then it would be the right color. Sorry, but not sorry. I think any job worth doing, is worth doing right. Not commenting just isn't my personality. I would rather have a rusty tractor, than one painted that wasn't the right color. |
I would expect nothing less from you.
