The 400

Yes I know it is green, I picked this up a few months ago with hopes of flipping it, but alas, it has a broken rod, funny thing it did run well on the other cylinder as I was able to drive it around and such.

What's it got for power Lew? Onan?

DeltaCub 12-13-2017 07:01 PM

That 400 looks great for it's age.:beerchug:

Doesn't look too great now!
Doc, K532 all cast iron engine.
I will remove it soon and send it to the Port of New Jersey as a boat anchor.

olds45512 12-13-2017 07:56 PM

I've seen a few 400's on the net with the exact same wheel setup.

athomas 12-13-2017 08:25 PM

Definitely got a stance on the rear ! Nice looking tractor even if it is green !

Nice 400 Lew. IIRC that was built to compete with the 982 but they are the oddball of Deere cause a lot of stuff was different from the other 400 series. Don't trash the motor, I think they bring pretty good money even if they are busted. I wish I could find another 420, they are nice machines.

Yes I know about the attachment deal, the motor is still intact minus a few things, the wheels are on backwards you know,?

The 400 was introduced in 1975. It was a garden tractor but could do more than the IH Cub Lo-Boy! It competed with the Simplicity Pw-r Max and it's AC twin. The early K series twins were very good engines but are expensive as hell to rebuild...if you can find the parts.

Everything at Lew's is backwards....

Tim, just for you....

johncub7172 12-14-2017 12:50 AM

That's the only JD garden tractor I ever operated. They are nice, and heavy duty.

Oak 12-14-2017 08:58 AM

When I ordered my Onan parts from Gary's Place (http://www.gphope.com/store/cat/57) I think he was looking into making rods and pistons for KQ532.

TIMCRUTCHER 12-14-2017 05:10 PM

I had one with a FEL. Should have kept it. Great tractor.

I just picked one up with Johnson workhorse loader, rear blade, rear pto and tiller. Have sideways pictures so haven’t posted them yet. Hope to get it running this weekend

It's not gonna run. That things probably a boat anchor.:biggrin2: Maybe you and Lew can get together and make one from two.

Sorry Mike, I couldn't resist.

Well to be honest I’m getting a little worried hearing about how expensive the 532 is to fix but Lews got me covered for now if the engine is roached. I didn’t realize how much stuff that young man has listed on EBay WOW.

darkminion_17 12-14-2017 07:49 PM

Pics or it didn't happen Alvy.
