My First Red One

6 Attachment(s)
Picked up a 1282 this morning. Looks to be a really early one as it has the IH hubcaps, dash, steering wheel cap, and cast iron rear. S/N is 706274, which does appear to be an early one. The engine is a 14hp, but it'll be replaced with a 12hp. I didn't pay attention until I got home, but the deck is a 50C. I assumed it was just a 44.

It's in really good shape. Just needs a really good bath and maybe some wax and/or polish. The trunnion and linkage all seem tight, but the steering has some play. Overall, I don't think it'll take much to get back to operational condition. Pics or it didn't happen.

Looks like a winner! Why put a 12hp in it when you have a 14hp? Do you just want it as original as possible? :beerchug:

Looks good Lance. Score on the hub caps too! So I might be wrong as I’m not used to the red ones but are you missing brakes........?

Yes! A red one, you did well Lance, your brother must be drooling, but he does that anyway.
Alvy, internal brakes, just like my 682.

Well learned something new didn’t know they brought them back into the game that late. Thank you curious George and Master of Lew for setting me straight. :biggrin2:

Because his brother wants the 14hp.... and he has a new 12hp to swap for it. :biggrin2:

It will yes! Well.... if you put in the lower engine plate for a twin it would.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I will be swapping the 14 for a new 12 from Jonathan. Supposedly this engine has a new piston and rod, but it hasn't been ran since that was changed. Not sure I want to try and run it if they didn't do a full rebuild.

And yes, Lew, he was drooling alright. Haha!

Congrats on the new Cub Lance. Get some of this red turtle wax, trust me when i say that thing will look like a million bucks when you're done with it.

Thanks, Tim! I added that to my shopping list. Anything you recommend for the chrome? I was thinking Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish.

I've heard mag polish and aluminum foil works wonders on the hub caps.

Not sure the plan for this one. I'm keeping these hubcaps for one of my IH machines though. :beerchug:
