Goodies for my truck.
 

I've been driving around for two months with a blown out strut and since plow day is a week away I figured I better take care of it before the trip. The sway bar links were also broke which is probably from all the bouncing the front end was doing. The truck got new strut's, ball joints, sway bar links, drilled/slotted rotors and brake pads. I just got back from breaking in the pads and rotors and I'm very happy with how it rides and stops.

Too bad all that stuff gets all rusty, are you doing the rears?

The rear is leaf springs and the shocks seem fine.

It's a 2011 with 112,000 miles one it. Got it 2 1/2yrs ago with 58,000 on it.

Back brakes are good enough for now, I will replace them in a few months.

Doing you own work is fun. Paying for it is not. I'll have to do rotors on my truck soon as well.

doing ones own work is essential to be able to afford to have the work done... I rely on a shop as minimally as possible.... alignment (after I go thru the suspension as needed), machine shop services, etc....

You don't need no stinkin brakes, all they do is slow you down.:biggrin2:

Not if you do it for a living..... takes the "fun" right out of it.

For the first time since new, I replaced the brakes on my 1999 Silverado 2500 last summer, 175,000 miles,,

For the first time ever in my 50 years of vehicle ownership, the rear brakes were more worn than the fronts.
Actually, the brakes were not in dire need of replacement, but they were close.

That's either b.s or you have some really weird driving habits.

My brother got about the same in the ford E250 van he had, used it to move furniture.

Yeah, if you don't ride the brakes, wait until the last second to stop and pull trailers with brakes..... it's not unheard of to get any of those mileages. I've seen it.

When I sold my Dodge diesel it had over 500,000 miles. I bought it with 250,000 on it. I think I only put 2 sets of front brakes on. I know I only did the rears once. But it had really big rear brakes. :biggrin2:

GM has their brakes figured out. I get about 125k on a set in my 10,000lb dually daily driver in Atlanta traffic.

I have 128,400 miles on my GMC 2500 Duramax, Have pulled a 35ft Montana 5th wheel many-many miles, The brakes are still in good shape.

Are they PowerStop Z23 Tim? I order the complete kit (Except calipers) for my 2015 GMC Terrain SUV , my rear brake are totally toasted after just 36,000 miles. I barely use that truck once a month, but since I will give it in exchange for a Infinity QX60 or a GMC Sierra before the end of this year I do a full brake job.

Even better! You need that for a full size pickup. My Jeep have a rear set with the red caliper, no noise and plenty of stopping power, nothing to complaint about since last year.

Oh my gosh! Do they still make those? We had a set of those on a farm truck in the 80's!!!
