Super Cub and Monkey.
Looks like Honda is going to be bringing some pretty cool stuff to the U.S. The only issue i see is the price. I think it would be cool to have either one but I'd have to wait and get a good deal on a used one.

The Monkey nameplate was the late 60s model. Later it was the Z series and I had one(Z-50) when I was a kid. I rode it everywhere and even places I shouldn't have. Brings back memories!

In our neighborhood, if you had a Honda 50 or 70 you were the "rich kid" and usually not to popular among the rest of us poor kids with cobbled up Briggs and Tecumseh mini bikes.

More of a Goldwing guy myself. And wow.... Honda outdid themselves with the new 2018 Goldwing!
https://powersports.honda.com/2018/g...cedesktop=true My 1988: Attachment 93418 Seriously though.... I'm a huge Honda fan. No matter what it is. Old to new, Honda is the king in my opinion. |

I agree with you, Honda does make great cars and bikes. |

Really upsets me they moved the plant back to Japan. But hey, America elected the worthless people that ruined the economy and made it cheaper to move factories out of this country.... but let's not get into the debate. That was a statement of fact, not a political argument. |
My brother and I had a 1974 Honda xr75. Lots of fun on that one dad took the chain off and wouldn’t let’s us ride it till we bought a helmet. Five bucks for a used 1/2 helmet and we were off!. Christmas morning 1977 I worked for an hour it seemed like to get my brand new 1977 xr75 out of the garage without scratching Moms Pontiac station wagon or the bike. Parked it in the driveway went back in the garage to get my helmet, my brother jumped on it took off down the street layed it down broke the clutch Handle off! . I didnt get to ride for couple of weeks. Brother had to buy Honda shop had to order

Oh.... this thread is dragging up memories!
My first bike was a Honda CB125S. I for the life of me can't remember the year of it, but I think it was a '77. :bigthink: Had a 90 ATC growing up, and rode several other ATC's with friends. I still have a 1985, 125M ATC. Anyone on here ever have an Odyssey? I always wanted to ride one, but never have. Not too many good originals out there now. Several have had engine swaps done, or heavily modified. I see them for sale now and again.... missing engines, or fenders. Nice ones still bring $2000 or more. |

Yes OUTLAWED.. read below Of course you can own them. Manufacturers were actually forbid, outlawed from making them.. Many towns outlawed them meaning if you got caught riding it they would impound it. The whole thing was absurd and really IMO was done to make way for the quads and the kits that were sold to convert 3 wheelers to 4. They were deemed to dangerous for use and 4 wheelers were the "safe" replacement. I never flipped any of mine. I think the real issue was some rich folks ran out and bought their 10 and 12 YO kids the biggest baddest machines available and thought they were toys. Then they got upset when their kid got hurt or worse and blamed it on the machine that the kid never learned to ride. Outlawing A Three-Wheeler Monday, Jan. 11, 1988 Subscriber content preview. or Log-In Share On countless occasions the Government has ordered defective autos and trucks recalled. But last week the Justice Department, backed by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, went a long step beyond that. In an unprecedented action, it outlawed future sales of an entire mode of transportation: three-wheel all- terrain vehicles. The rugged gasoline-powered machines, which also come in four-wheel models, look something like a cross between a motorcycle and a dune buggy. Costing an average of $2,000, they can cruise up to 50 m.p.h. and negotiate some of the toughest terrain around, from sand dunes and rock-strewn hills to marshy lowlands. They... My buddy had an odyssey.. Those things were so freaking cool and so fun! Strap in and hold on! lol.. insane machine |
I still own/use a Honda ATC 90, a friend gave it to many years ago.
Remembering he bought new it in '72. it runs well, and everything works as it should. I had to make adapters so I could put tires with wheels on it, as the originals became dry rotted. Fun to turn it up on 2 wheels and make people think I'm going to turn it over as I ride it that way.:biggrin2: Sometimes during harvest, I drive it up on the corn head of the combine and go to fields that I need to return from, that are too far to walk. it is not all pretty & shiny as it once was, but it works just fine.:beerchug: |
An old original ATC 90 with rubber tires! That's cool you have an original George. Seems those are either long gone, or brand new looking. It's crazy. I saw an article not long ago of a guy who had an ATV museum. He had several new in the crate bikes on display. Hard to believe after all these years there were still new in crate machines that had never been sold or used.... but this guy finds them!
|
I remember when they were selling NEW 1983 Yamaha venture royals in the crates as late as '88,because they overbuilt production
and they didn't sell like they planned. I ride my '83 venture royal and it still turns heads, but sadly I don't ride as much as I did when it was new.(and I was younger) But still a nice pleasant quiet ride. |
Had an old Super 90 as a kid. I used it as a dirt bike. It didn’t do bad.
|
We had a 57' Thunderbird electric car when we were little. Dad got it from his brother who owned a Ford dealership.
I wish we still had the home movies of it. Looked like this one or it may be the one we had https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ_tPHTVcFo |

My folks couldn't afford the Honda for their kid. But they did their best. And to me, it was the best mini bike out there.:biggrin2: It was a Gemini SST 50.
We went to a little hole in the wall place, called Ozie's Sportshop. When we got it home, my mother took it for the first ride. She got nervous, and instead of turning the throttle up to stop, she turned down, spun out, and peeled the end off the handlebar grip. (picture from the web) I bought a Suzuki TS 125, brand new off the showroom floor at 15. It was a year old model, but still new. Busted hump for two years, saving every penny I earned to pay for it. By the end of that summer, I had a broken collarbone, new handle bars, rear fender, and taillight on it. :biggrin2: Then when I turned 18, bought a used Suzuki GS 750 "Water Buffalo", three cylinder, 2 stroke screamer. That bike was quick, not like my buddy Tim's Kawasaki 750, "QUICK". But plenty fast. "Yingggg, yingggg",,,,,,,.:biggrin2: For those that aren't interested, sorry, this thread just brought back so many memories, I couldn't stop reliving...:biggrin2: |
I had a TC 125. Had the 2 range gear box. The kids finally sent it to its demise. It was a neat little bike.
|
I can just see me on the monkey. :biggrin2:
