But, It's a Cub Cadet!
While looking for Cubs on Craigslist, people think that no matter what condition the tractor is in, if it says Cub Cadet they think they can ask ridiculous prices for them. Do you find that is true in your area?
|
Yep.
Another thing that gets me is they put "pulling tractor" in the ad thinking it will bring more money..... but they are selling a hydro tractor. :bash2: |

"Classic", "Hard to find", "Very rare" are just a few. And the never ending add. For Sale, "IH Cub Cadet", when it was clearly built way later than the IH tractors.:bash2:
Then we get the tillers for sale, and gear box sold separately.:bash2: https://appleton.craigslist.org/grd/...612025376.html |

Tractors that I had an interest in have been $650-$750. You know you'll have to put at least another $650-$750 back in it to bring it up to par.
One said "it's been smoking a lot lately"! $$$! |
There was a 122 on CL down here ad said completely restored, completely taken apart, cleaned, fixed, repainted before and after reassembly.
Like factory new. The pics showed that he did not even bother to tape off anything as he spray bombed the whole thing with the almost right colors. And he only had it listed at $2500 with no deck tractor only. |

Then there’s the ads that say “Farmall Cub Cadet”. Sometimes it’s a Farmall Cub and other times it’s a Cub Cadet. Every time it has a ridiculous asking price.
There’s also the ads that say “Haven’t had running. Just needs battery.” That probably means they put a battery in it and it either has a bad starter, trashed wiring, broken rod, or seized engine. They’re hoping a buyer will not be smart enough to bring a battery with them to try starting it before they fork over the cash. |
How are you guys finding these $50 tractors? This is some of what I'm up against looking at Cubs here in Ohio.

More often I just can't find anything and every craigslist search comes up with 0 results. |

The most hilarious tractor to come and go was a "Mint pulling tractor" 73, crap house paint thrown on it (he was standing at least 10 feet from the tractor in the pictures but you could still see the paint run and orange peel), no clutch, no carb or exhaust, wrong transaxle. Completely junk and leaking fluid from engine, fuel lines, and rear end (he was obviously offended by me pointing that out, he blamed it on a truck, yet in another pic it was moved with drips in the same locations).
The best part? IT WAS 3000$, and I had seen that tractor 2 days before on AuctionZip! He put no effort in! It wasn't even setup for pulling and completely stock. Was the guy delusional? Definitely. "Oh, I've owned this tractor for years," yeah right. |
Oh, or you see people selling just attachments for like 200$. Junk mower decks, 150$ a piece, despite all missing parts.
The best ones are parts tractors... People hoping to get a quick buck by parting out. You shoot an offer for the whole thing and get the usual "Sorry, parts only, won't sell whole" Every time that happens they always get scrapped for 30$. "Bud, I would've given 300$ for that..." OR you ask them about a part and they immediately get all defensive and say, "Sorry, I stole that for my tractor." |

I've had the opposite effect happen. I put a 106 out for sale in my yard for $500.00. It ran good but smoked some and needed the brakes relined. It had a nice plow blade and a mower that needed a little work. I figured I'd take anything over $350.00 for it. The farmer who owned it before me put a stack on it. It was in real nice condition, not rusty and original paint.
An hour or so later I saw a guy checking it out so I headed outside. By the time I got to the tractor a second guy stopped. The two guys knew each other and wanted it to use as a puller. By the time they got done bidding with each other it sold for $700.00 but the buyer didn't want the plow or mower. I left them out in the yard with a $100.00 sign. A guy stopped and bought them both. He asked me if I'd take $150.00 for both. Since I only wanted $100.00 for both I said sure. He was happy and so was I. The tractor cost me $400.00 5 years earlier. I do kinda miss that tractor though.... |
