Needin suggestions for garden tractor
I come to realize i dont know what model of old tractor i need. I do need a full size someday but for now i need to cut about 5 acres grounds and maintain 1/2 mile of gravel road, scrape/fill potholes and clear snow if needed. A tiller would be a plus, besides a cub i am open to sugestions, seen a sutoh 18hp that looks interesting, anyhow seems to be lots of cubs around here, i just don’t know what models are still well built but also have a pressurized oil lube system for the hills. Thanks for any ideas.

If I had to mow that much ground I would definitely want something with Twin cylinder. An older Cub with a single cylinder would get the job done but would be awfully slow compared to a twin. I would look for an 1811, 1812, 1872, 2072 or a cyclops tractor. I'm not overly familiar with which model cyclops tractors would be desirable but i'm sure someone will be along shortly with that info.

Nothing less than a 60 inch for that 5 acres if you are not using a Zero Turn is my suggestion...

Go with a diesel "super", period.

If you need to cut 5 acres and maintain a 1/2 mile of road, you need a tractor, not a garden tractor. Honestly, you need a ZTR and a tractor. You won't get anything but mowing and blading done if you get a GT. Go look for a good used zero turn and a 30- 45 hp tractor.

This is my answer for mowing large acreage and doing dirt work. The mower is for sale. I now have a farmer cut the 14 acres I used to mow for hay.:beerchug:

All you need is a 5488

Buy one yet?? :biggrin2: |
Hmm thinking I have underlying issues...
No 😔 |
I'd buy a Farmall M w/ 3 pt so you can run a mower/blade.
If you are thinking 5488 which is a great option, hell go with a 3788 or similar. :biggrin2: |

They are the coolest of the IH's though. My Uncle had a 52. It was a horse. |
