Cab Heater on a 3000 series with a Kawasaki engine
 

Anyone ever done this with the liquid cooled Kawi engine? I have an all metal Sims cab, wondering if worth doing if I want heat.

Cab heat is always a good thing while blowing up a blizzard in a "T" shirt :biggrin2:

Any heat better than none. Especially if you have glass in cab. Point A hose off heater at windshield to defrost!

You could run a loop to a finned radiator inside the cab. You would have to design a bypass circuit to turn on/off and/or moderate the coolant as the temp inside the can became too warm. A Circulating Fan would be even nicer.

Lot of things to think about.

I believe JD makes a kit that has a heater core, fan, branch hoses, controls, etc for their liquid cooled models. Probably lists for half the cost of the tractor. ;)
Actually, not sure if made by JD or an aftermarket, but it's available. I've never come across one made by CC or aftermarket for a 3000 series.

The cab and blower are on a 3235, I don't have a liquid cooled Kawi (yet). I want see if anyone else has done it and explore what it would take. If feasible I'll start hunting for a 3205 with a bad rear or hydro selling for a good price. There was one for sale a few months ago about 2 hours from me. Hydro pump was bad, asking $500. I should have jumped on it but sat on the fence too long. By the time I called it was sold.

If you or anyone else wants. We have a few self contained heater cores in boxes with fans. We take the out of tugs with cabs. They have 2 2" ports coming off them one goes to the tube for defrost the other goes to a vent by feet. If i run out of used ones i have a source for new also

Judging by the picture looks to be 10" on each side? How much are they?

My thought was to find a thin core that would fit in the area the battery is in. Not sure how yet, and have to add the thickness for a fan behind it. I'll keep this in mind though, thanks.

Correct. inlet and outlet for water. It has a 12 volt fan in it. They are meant to be bolted to the inside of cab. I would run 2 hoses from coolant system with quick connects and same on heater side. Then when cab comes off in summer just connect the engine side hoses together

I'm very interested. I'm going to build a dedicated snow removal tractor out of my two parts tractors and will be using the Kawasaki engine in it. That way I don't have to remove the heavy 6 window long version Sims cab anymore. That thing is heavy, I use my engine hoist to install it.


As for hook up Y type tee goes in the bypass hose and the other hose gets spliced into the upper radiator hose with a tee.

The engine cooling fan draws air in across the battery threw the screen mounted under the dash. I doubt trying to blow air the other way will work real well. My plan was to mount one in the back corner of the cab.

I like that idea as there is already a screen there.

Coops would be good too if you have room on the left side of the cab or mount it on the outside on the roof.

The type of box i have would have to be inside the cab. Outside would cool to quickly. The air would be cold before it got to you. The core just doesn't have enough capacity. Also the ones i have are used on systems with 3 or more gallons of coolant. The kubota system might not have the capacity of coolant to keep the core happy. Welcome to try one tho.

Well then cut it in half and it will use less coolant.
You are like me, it is a Kawasaki not a 3 pin driver.

The picture I saw with the extended Sims cab must be yours! I was looking for it the other day but couldn't find it. It was a pic of the left side with the tractor in a garage. Is that yours?

I wish I had a longer cab. My high back seat hits the rear glass even with the seat all the way forward. Wanna trade? :)

Don't have a 3205 so don't know how it's designed. Cart before the horse type situation? Do I get a 3205 without knowing if it'll work and make the best of it, or ask questions first....and then close my ears to what I don't want to hear and buy one anyway? :bigthink:

Back corner? So you're thinking of running coolant lines from front to rear? Isn't that too long for a cooling system / engine that small?

That's mine and no I won't trade. I'm too tall to run the seat forward. My seat just misses the glass when it's one click from being all the way back with my fat butt on it.

I'd look for a 3208 personally if I were you. I've seen a few JD's that use the same engine with a heater mounted there.
