The specifications on this tachometer seems to be lacking and you're shooting in the dark if you purchase one. All we know that this tach is "variable frequency" (????? what does that mean?????) with out knowing the range of calibration. But I think that would depend on for WHAT Cub Cadet you wish to use it as you didn't say.

Many of those tachometers works for multiple cylinder or multiple pulses per revolution. Here is a example of an earlier thread last year: https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ght=tachometer

Perhaps you could be the lead man an take the risk of purchasing one and let us know how you make out? Or, ask the seller a question.... be specific about for what you intend to use it. You could always return it if it doesn't work.

Talked to a the Manufacture rep. and he said it will not work with a single cyl. engine. Have a great day.

I have had a tach in every auto I have owned since the late 60's. Don't really need one on "MY" tractor, but why not? Have a great day.

If you search for 1 cylinder tach on Ebay you'll find some ... there's one in the $23 range that looks fine for the job

Thanks, JBrewer. I saw them on ebay but I didn't want one that showed 8k on the gauge. Just wouldn't look right on a cub with a 3600 rpm limit. Thanks again and have a great day.

I dug up an old thread. This was a good topic! There's a lot to glean from this thread and maybe something could get (re-) started from this.

Put a digital tach on it,, you will not care if it reads to 20,000,,
you will never see anything higher than what the engine will rev,,

A little unclear about -- do you wire this in line with the spark plug cable or can you hook it up to the coil? I don't like the idea of splicing into the HV cable but it's not like the ol' tractors an airplane so I could get over that...

That made me "laugh out loud"
The ones I've seen were "inductive" getting the signal from a small gauge wire wrapped a turn or two AROUND the HV lead to the plug.
I can just picture an actual "tap" to the high voltage lead, and every time the plug fires,
the hands spin on the meter just like a cuckoo clock on Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid.:biggrin2:
