My New To Me 149

I used to be semi retired but went back to work...driving semis OTR. Well that doesn't leave a great of time to play with the Cubbies. However, last summer i acquired another 149 from a member here at OCC. He told me the engine did not run very well...no problem...the tractor is in great shape and the price was very fair. After repairing the ignition system the engine roared to life...yayyyy! After about 10-15 minutes the exhaust valve stuck and it quit. I removed the cylinder head and other parts to access and remove the valves. At that time I decided to rebuild the engine. The tractor is too nice not to have a great engine in it.

Pics or it didn't happen!:biggrin2:

Indeed nice enough for a rebuilt engine. I see some goodies on that tractor. Very nice. I hope I'm fortunate enough to get a 149 as nice as that for myself someday.

The exhaust valve comparison...The old one has been "necked" or stretched and the margin will be too thin if it was to be refaced. It is now in the scrap metal bucket.

Te piston was "washed" or had no carbon build up because it had too much oil blowby.

The wobbly balance gears will not be going back in!

When doing an engine rebuild, it is a good idea to reface the tops of the tappets. This will help in making accurate cold clearance tappet to valve adjustments.

Yes Coop it has some nice goodies. The tires are practically new, the tail lights lenses are OEM and in great shape too. The three point kit just makes it look bad ass too!

Nice looking 149, are you repainting or keeping it original?

It is too nice to strip and repaint. The engine will be repainted.

darkminion_17 09-28-2019 11:12 PM

That is good to keep it original, any other projects?

Very nice!

The erosion of that valve stem is impressive.

Nice looking tractor!

I bet you missed the hobby..... But you haven't lost your touch. The 149 is a nice tractor and it's good to know it's being taken cared of by someone who knows!

Nice 149, Beth! Good luck with it.

Hey ya'all the 149 engine is all complete, installed and running properly. Now, after all of the time and money spent, this tractor is just going to do what most of my tractors do....collect dust.

darkminion_17 11-06-2019 08:04 PM

Looks like a blankie will keep the dust off.
Nice looker...

Nice 149

Dang, that's a nice looking 149! Glad it went to a good home. I especially like the decal on the right side next to the starter/generator. :HeeHee:
Good luck with your new toy!
