Cub Cadet Grizzly; Parts??
 

Hello;

I picked up my first Cub Cadet product last week. It's an older SxS/UTV called a Grizzly 4016. From what I have learned these were made around 1996-97.

It's a really neat little machine! Not near as much performance of a newer model, but this is exactly what I need for chores around my property.

I need help finding brake parts. The person before me thew all the front brake parts in the trash :angry:

I've already tried Cub Cadet dealers around me and everything on-line I could find. All of these parts are not available. I've also not been able to find any kind of cross-reference for the part numbers.


Does anyone have any knowledge of these machines?

If I can't find parts, I'm thinking about trying to make something by using go-kart parts or something similar. I don't have any experience with this type of FAB work, but I'm not scared to learn.

All of the part numbers show up as not available everywhere i look.

Anyone know of a cross reference for this? Or anyone have a suggestion for potentially using parts from a different vehicle that I could FAB something to make them work?

They must have been junk from the start. I can't find much for them.
If you really like it than try to find a used one for parts on ebay.

I have been searching everywhere and cannot find parts or an entire unit for sale and I have not had any luck. (including eBay)

It seems like a great little machine, but was only made for 2-years, so not a lot of them out there.

They were not too proud of it IIRR.
Every once and a while someone comes on here that purchased one looking for parts, and never has much luck.
As much as I would like to help you, I can't.
One could fab something up possibly from some other brand.
if it runs well I honestly suggest either using it as is or trading it off to someone that needs parts.
You can do a search on here as it seems in my old foggy memory, someone a year or so ago, needed trans or axle parts.
Sort of like a Yugo car of yesteryear.

Yep, I did some searching on this forum and found a couple other posts with people looking for parts.

I can use it as-is; the rear brakes do function and it does not go very fast. As long as I plan ahead I can stop in time (if not on a steep hill)

I have a newer version UTV that Cub made and it is pretty good but it does have some issues with the electronic shifter. Mine was made with brakes on the rear wheels only. The PO got scared when he would drive it down to his dock on the lake and the rear wheels would lock up and he would lose control. Maybe you'll be okay with rear brakes only. My land is pretty flat so it has not been an issue with me.

Looks like a cushman truckster. Maybe they made them for cub cadet

I'm thinkin' with a little ingenuity and work you could make go-kart/quad parts do the job.

Thanks!! I'll look into those. ON my first google searches all I'm finding for cushman is drum brakes, where this one shows it had front discs, but thank you for the suggestion!!

Mine does have rear brakes, and they are new. But, it barely stops with only the rear brakes while driving empty. I'm worried that once I have a load of firewood in the bed it wont be able to stop at all.

But, my land is fairly flat as well. It is at least usable as-is

FYI:

I might have found another line of machine built on the same platform. This one looks alot like my machine. Other pictures show it having the same engine and transaxle/clutch assembly. More research to come.

I know them pretty well now. Contrary to a few posts here they are pretty user friendly. The basic drivetrain was taken form the Heald Hauler which I think cub Cadet bought out in the mid 90's. All the parts are "off the shelf". Yours probably never came with front brakes as it doesn't have the integral rotor. James (the other guy on here that you reached out to) didn't have front brakes on his either. I would suggest figuring out how to mount an after market rotor and go from there. The factory front disc brake calipers just sucked. I upgraded my to a cheap chineseum caliper and they work fine. I had to fabricate a mounting bracket form 3x3 angle iron. I'll take some pics this weekend.

I beat the crap out of mine. With the locking rear differential and a few hundred pounds in the back I can plow about 8" of wet snow

Hello, I've had some success on my research about the brakes on this machine, so I am posting here to hopefully help any future person who is looking for brake parts

I recently purchased a 2nd machine that has all the original brake parts. The previous owner was the original purchaser and still had the owners manual and registration card for the warranty!!

Currently, the brakes on this 2nd machine of mine do not function, but I believe they just need new pads and proper bleeding to work. (all parts are there)

While this post will not tell you where to buy rotor/hubs, I can give you dimensions and pictures of the hubs (might be able to find a local machine shop that can fabricate them, I am looking now myself)

I can give part numbers and pictures for the calipers. THESE ARE DIFFERENT THAN THE CUB CADET PART NUMBERS IN THE SCHEMATICS AND PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE NEW!!! :beerchug:

On my machine here are part numbers:

Front Brake Calipers:
Part Number 07080018 (Assy number H10DACG)
"friction Puck" (brake pad) for this caliper is 0708-1051

Rear Brake Calipers:
Part Number 07240028 (mine are not marked with Assy number; but through research I have found they are H20SAFCG)
"friction Puck" (brake pad) for this caliper is 0708-1051

When speaking to the tech-support for Tolomatic, it looks like they did not make a specific "build sheet" for these calipers, but they did confirm the correct friction-puck part number. I've attached build sheets they did give me for similar brake calipers on here so everybody has access; they can help you see how these are assembled. Please note, one of the PDF files was too large so I had to take screenshots and shrink them down; makes it hard to read. If anyone needs these in the original format, please reach out to me and I can email them to you


I will add more posts to include pictures of the brakes/labels on my machine.

I will also add more posts to have pictures of the hub/rotor assembly with dimensions.

As a follow-up to my last post; here is a source close to me where I ordered replacement pucks today (brake pads)

The pucks cost $12.89 each puck for one part number, and $18.40 for the other. You can even buy these entire caliper assemblies fully complete if you prefer, but they really expensive that way

Also, attached is a screen-shot the tech guy at Tolomatic gave me of the caliper of mine that fits into the "H20" assembly family

My next post will have information about the hub/rotor assemblies.

More follow-up.

I only took the Left Front wheel/hub apart for pictures. I did take pictures of the labels on the other calipers though.

For this machine, the front calipers are the same for both Left and Right; same for the rear.

For the front hubs, I'm still looking for used parts.

My set is good, but I still need a set for my "original" machine. Cannot find new ones anywhere.

I'm also going to local machine shops to see how much it would cost to have a set fabricated.

Here is what my rotor/hub assembly measures at:

• The overall rotor diameter is 7.75"
• Rotor thickness is about 0.135"
• Hub flange is 4" square and 1/4" thick
• Distance from the face of the rotor to the rear face of the hub flange is about 4.0344" in length
• ID where the bearing are is right at 1" (spindle thickness just under 1")

FWIW the new front calipers work great. I wouldn’t spent five minutes on those original Tol-o-matic calipers. They are just junk. I still have my back ones but as soon as they start grinding again I’m going to tweak a cheap set of chinesium calipers for those too.
