I'm New and Clueless, please help! Pics Included

Hey guys, I'm looking for info on my "found" IH CC #122 tractor. I'm including pics I took to see if you guys can tell me what I have and where to start in rehabilitating it. I'm not currently an engine rebuilder, but I'm pretty good with taking things apart, putting them back together and making them run in the process! This tractor was found in my shed and I'm only just looking at it for the first time. I haven't done anything with it or attempted to make it run. What I do know is that the air filter is rusted in the holder unit, but I kept it to get a proper size. I'll need to replace it for sure though.

I really haven't looked at the controls, attempted to start it or anything. So if you can tell me where to start, I'd appreciate it. Like I said - NEW AND CLUELESS! :biggrin2:

Here are some of the pics I took. It was found with some accessories, which are still sitting in my shed untouched. I also found a second Wheel Horse #522 tractor in there too, which appears to be in far better condition.

On another note, I'm looking to get a mower for my property if this beast can't be resurrected. Any suggestions? I need a 36" deck or bigger. THANKS!

Looks like a good find. Try changing the oil, and draining the gas, put in new oil and gas, throw on a battery and see if she runs, may want to try and turn it over by hand to see if its stuck, but good change it will be ok if it was inside. Lots of guys have found these and do little work to get them running. Then clean them up here and there and then it depends how nice you want it.

Looks like you have a rear lift, is that front peice a chipper? Also saw a deck and snow blower. Nice find!

Wow! So you "FOUND" a 122, with a creeper, snowblower, blower, chipper shredder, and 3 point? Looks like it could use a little TLC, but you found a nice treasure of Cub Cadet pieces.

you could sell that shredder attachment to someone here and use the money to put towards getting it going. Those shredders are rare from what I understand.

WOW! You just found what I would call a hidden treasure.
Your 122 was made in June of 1967. The small handle below the shifter is for the creeper gear. You have a 3 point sleeve hitch lift on the back, and all sorts of really nice implements.

I would start with the carb. Clean it up and rebuild it. Change the oil. Put some new points and condenser and spark plug and see if you can get it to running if the motor is able to turn over by hand. Then from there you can kind of see what is working and is not working. I would try to get it mechanically correct then worry about making it look good.

Wow, you guys are good! Yeah, I posted in my intro thread that this guy was supposed to leave us a "broom swept" house and instead, we had to bring in 4 - 20 cubic yard dumpsters to clean out the house. This shed was PACKED with stuff. I found a WW1 foot locker with letters, pictures, a watch, etc. Gold and silver coins/bars (not enough to cover the cost of the dumpsters), these tractors, a pot belly stove and other stuff. It sounds cool until you realize how much it cost us to dump the things from the house!

Anyway, I'll get working on the 122 this weekend. I've got a friend who's a bit more knowledgable coming over, but I was hoping you guys would give me a good start - which you did and then some!

How would I go about trying to turn the engine by hand? He did ask if it was seized and I'd like to tell him yes or no.

Just reach in the front and grab the PTO and see if you can rotate it. These engines turn CCW. So from the front the PTO would turn to the left normally.

Ya, that's what I'm thinking.... I'd love to "find" some stuff one day... People with that kind of luck need to go digging in their backyards and "find" some 10K diamonds too :biggrin2:
