Another 1604

Hi, I'm new to the site. I to have recently purchased a CCC 1604 in what I think is in pretty good shape and about 800 hours on it. I bought it mainly to cut the grass in my woods as well as pull a 10 foot utility trailer into the back yard for storage. The guy I purchased it from told me the B&S motor was cast iron, but I cant confirm that. Also, I have read that the transmission is alluminum on one site ans cast iron on a different site, what is true? Anything to watch out for? It starts, runs, idles and cuts well. Can I put a sleeve hitch onto this machine should I ever want to? How about a front end loader for mulch and top soil? Any input anybody feels like throwing my way would be great. It is difficult to find info on the 1604. THANKS!

I can tell you what material your cub transmission is made of, but I can tell that it is not one of the heavy duty cub transmissions. It's actually built by Peerless. It's not nessessarily a bad transmission, it's just not as stout as a IH or cub cadet built one. A lot of garden tractor manufactures used Peerless transmissions with great sucess.
