Thanks for a great site... I have owned a MTD version 1325 since new in 1994 and mowed 3 acres of blackberry bushes into a pasture- who needs a bush hog when you own a Cub!! It is still running strong although I had some problems locating a mower deck this spring.
Have always wanted an IH Cub and just bought a 1450 with tiller attachment, but won't be able to pick it up until fall! Does anyone know how strong that tiller will be- I have to tackle red clay here in the south!! Also would like to find a mower deck at some point for the 1450- believe it should be a 44" deck, bet if I explore this site some I'll be able to come up with the model number.

I had a 1450 for several years, it had a 44A deck on it. Mowed really nice.

glad to have you here!!! I love my tiller on the 123,I dont know much about red clay but id imagine you could possibly break it up a bit with a plow first then till it??
When I get into real hard pack here the tiller wants to bounce and only cut a bit at a time.If I plow first it seems to stay in the ground better.
I remember digging sprinkler lines through clay by hand in nothern california once and it was tough,even with a pick and bar.

Welcome to the forum. I have only used a walk behind tiller and what that has shown me is it is less work in the long run to do several (as many as needed) passes digging shallow as opposed to trying to gouge it all out at once or even in two passes. Your millage may vary.

The 1450 should be a real work horse for you. Put your time and money in it. You won't regret it in the end. Again welcome.
