New guy here!

Hey all hows it going? First a lil bout myself my name is Bobby Im 26 and live in Oklahoma. I have always loved my great grandpas mower, a cub cadet 682 and when he got to ill to mow anymore I had offered to buy it fom him. But you how those old timers are he just couldnt let her go. So when he went to that great paradise in the sky my great grandma gave it to me. It had been sitting for two years with no attention at all so I was amazed at how all I did was put a new battery in her pulled the choke turned the key and she fired right up! Thats a testimate to how reliable and great these old tractors are.

Now for the reason Im here, Im needing help to figure out which motor I have and if I just need a carb rebuild kit or a new carb. When I first start her she runs fine for a lil bit then she starts to leak gas out of a round bowl looking thing on the bottom of the carb. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

:Welcome2: Bobby! Glad to have you! Your either have a KT17 series 1, or a KT17 series 2 engine, in your 682. Someone here will be able to tell you which engine you have for sure.

Bobby,
That bottom picture is priceless, great picture!!!!I dont know about the engine you have but it sounds like you need a float adjustment at a minimum!!!

chevyfast,

Welcome to the forum. Love that muffler. They are as solid as the tractors.

chevyfast:

First, welcome to our Forum.........:Welcome2:

As mentioned prior, that is a Kohler KT-17 motor. Now the KT-17 had two different series of motor. There was Series I and Series II. You can tell by either getting the serial number off the motor tag, or the serial number off the tractor chassis. Once we have that, we can better identify your motor.

chevyfast,

Love the picture of you 2 . If it set for a couple of years it might just need a new gasket for the bowl. Probley just dried out. Id clean the whole thing and put a kit in it while its off. Just my :TwoCents:

Hey thanks guys I got two diffrent serial #s one on the body and one on the deck. The one on the deck says 44c rotary mower serial # 0320020u146674 & the one on the body is 2050593u674086. I couldet fin any serial #s like the cubcadet.com site was talking about the pre 686554 or the after 686555

Diz Jr. 07-14-2009 09:21 PM

Hey chevyfast. Everything after the u is what you are looking for.

So in your case 674086 should be your tractor serial number.

R Bedell 07-14-2009 11:17 PM

With that Serial Number.....It would be a Series I KT-17.
