V/R Question
What is the correct NAPA part number for a 129 voltage regulator? The one I purchased was VR 986. After installing, when I connect the ground cable to the battery the S/G trys cranking the motor over.:bash2: Wrong part? Bad key switch? I'm lost.:bigthink:

Are the terminals labeled F,B,L, with the Gen terminal on the opposite side? My original VR for my 108 is labeled F,G,B with the GRD terminal on the opposite side. If you hooked up the new VR the same as the old one I believe it will crank the engine when you connect the ground, because that's actually the Gen terminal. If that's the case, double check your connections, don't use the L terminal, and the VR should work. I'm running one with the L terminal taped, it works fine. Roland has a great diagram in the Technical tractor section. Got the info to not use the L terminal from him. I think the replacement VR's out there are all set up like the VR's for the O's.

Thanks, but it is too late!:bash2::bash2::bash2: I read that right-up and missed the part about the back terminal........smoked the S/G! |
That would be my luck too! hate to hear that news, though. I bought a reconditioned one off ebay a few years ago for about 100.00 . Had to put my original front casting on the new one, but it works still. Using it now on my 127 that I built.

Today has been a roller coaster. Just got off the phone with a good buddy who thinks he has one...............free! I will be calling the "higher-ups" at NAPA/Echlin tommorow to discuss the issue this the VR896. Too many "what ifs" could happen when hooking up this V/R with their direction. Saftey First!

Good news....Luckly the S/G is ok. I think the smoke was coming from the main wire. After wiring it properly, it starts and charges. I just got of the phone with Echlin and described the problem with the VR896 internal wiring and the included instructions. Now I am waiting on the enginering dept. to call me back on the issue. I will keep everyone updated on this.:biggrin2:

Thanks for the update, John. Glad your S/G didn't get messed up. :beerchug:

That really IS good news, on the S/G I mean!
