Craftsman tractor help
 

I ha a craftsman lt1000 with a 17.5 horsepower engine. I wanted to take the bowl off the carb and clean it but there is some electrical conector on the bottom and i can't even see the bolt for the bowl. Anybody ever work on one of these?

I have. Remove that wire, and the solenoid is the bowl nut. Get the bowl out of the way, and clean up the gas in that area. Reconnect wires to the solenoid.
Disconnect sparkplug wire. With key off, solenoid should be extended. Key on should retract the solenoid. It is also spring loaded to extend.

I disconnected the wires and the solenoid just spins and doesnt do anything. What should i do?

Lee250, William is correct except for you need to ground the soenoid to the frame. When grounded the plunger will retract back into the body of the solenoid. Be careful doing this as a spark could ignite any fuel/vapor.

Yeah I can hear the solenoid clicking in there but I the solenoid just spins. How does it come off?

Are you asking how the solenoid come off of the carb bowl or how the plunger in the solenoid come off? The plunger is not removable. The plunger will spin inside off the solenoid, that ok. Use a 1/2" wrench to remove the solenoid from the carb bowl. Don't lose the copper gasket that is sandwiched between the solenoid and carb bowl. Hope this helps.

There are two phillips head screws one on each side of the solenoid that remove the bowl from the carb.Watch the rubber O ring when you put the bowl back on it fits in a groove and if its not all the way in its easy to crush.
