1650 Muffler Bracket
Hello,
I'm in the process of repairing a heavily used & abused 1650. I bought new engine mounts, made the engine rail modification, bought a used exhaust elbow, and an aluminum air duct & sheet metal shroud off ebay only to discover the air duct had several fractures. I realize this system is very flimsy so now I'm thinking of fabricating separate metal supports to support the muffler and not relying on the aluminum air duct to support all this weight. I'm not going for a 100 point restoration, just a good reliable mower. I'm interested in what other owner's of the 1650 have used to solve this muffler support problem. Thank You! - Jim |
What it did was go to lowes and buy some steel and make my own bracket from the bottom of the motor where the single bolt runs through the engine to the top of the muffler bracket it had two bends i did it on the fly and worked for me. Sorry I don't have any pictures the mower was sold but it worked the steel was about 1.5 x .250 and I bent it up in a vice.

Matt G. shows a pic of his muffler bracket here on page 3 of my 1650 project thread.

Thanks for the feed back. The photos of Dave's 1650 project and the link posted by Methos helped. The bracket on my muffler has been cobbled up by the previous owner. I'll build some support brackets and try to post photos later.
