Hi all,
I'm thinking about buying a 1282, but I don't really know anything about them. I wondered if someone could enlighten me about the what this tractor is like? Is it an IH tranny or a CCC tranny? Do CCC tranny's hold up? 12 horse kohler, right? This one comes with chains, 42 inch deck and snowblower, but is missing the side panels. The engine is rebuilt with less than 100 hours on it. Does 800 dollars sound reasonable for that? I think this is a CCC, not IH, right? Thansk, Philip |
The 1282 was produced by CCC for IH dealers. They had cast iron differentials and transmission housings until serial number 719,999. (Cast axle-carrier tubes were already aluminum)- then aluminum castings after the afore mentioned serial number. 12hp K301AQS Kohler motor. This is the same mower as the yellow and white CCC model 680. These are good mowers. If you are planning on plowing ground or using a rear attachment that engages dirt the aluminum rear differential could be a weak point. There are still plenty of cast iron units for sale that you could swap over. Side panels can be found also. If the snowblower is in good shape, I would try for around $600 for everything and then work up to what you are comfortable paying. Price just varies so much from area to area, it is hard to tell someone what a good price is. Hope this is of some help. Also the information giving comes from the book: 50 Years of Cub Cadet by Oscar H. Will III. I highly suggest you purchase this book if you don't already have it. Great source of information on all GT models.
I forgot about the motor being rebuilt. It is probably worth the $800 then. Check it out, make sure it drives good and the tranny doesn't lurch or surge. |

That's a big help! I can't quite tell... does that look like an IH rearend to you? I'll have to get the serial number from the guy.
thanks philip |
If it is black it is probably a CCC differential. Normally the IH diffs were painted red.

That's likely to be an aluminum rear because the dash tower is also black. Regardless of which rear it is, it'd still be a good tractor. I wanted one to use as a loader tractor, but I never found one, so I basically made one out of a 682.

Eric aka juniors1282 has a sweet 1282. Rich Patton at Patton Acres will have the side panels for it if they can't find the ones that go with it. His banner is at the top of every page. Call or email him he has tons of items not listed on his web page due to the volume of parts he has. Goes for our other site sponsers as well.
