QA36A-the good and bad.

Well this will be short lived here, but I wanted to share the story any way. A while back I bought a package deal from up in western NY, a 107 with a bad motor, no deck, but did come with a 1A tiller, QA36A thrower, chains, wheel weights, tractor has spring assist and lights. I had intended to refresh the blower and sell it, I have a 528 Cub blower that I use at my place. Well, turns out after much closer inspection, the po :bash: must have tried to start his own strip mine with this thing. The auger is just bent up too much for me to put enough time into it to straighten it out. And the back of the housing has been stretched back and has a hole worn through. So I've decided to just part it out, p.s. check the for sale section in a day or two for all the good stuff. Any way check out the pics and enjoy, shake your head,,,,, or what ever.

The PO sure did a number on that snow blower!

OHHHH! :Forgot: Snow, goes in there, well that would explain the loud noises the po must of heard. LoL

Yep, "it made a funny noise" !!!

Hi Tom,
I was a fleet mechanic for a number of years on trucks and buses. I can't tell you how many times I would see scattered clutches, pressure plates and even flywheels and bell-housings on local school buses. (Remember these were designed on heavy duty truck IH, Ford, GMC etc. chassis to move our children around the neighborhoods) The last one I remember before my area went to Allison Automatics was so bad that parts of the flywheel were stuck up in the dash board above the drivers feet ! I showed her the holes in the floor (noting that she normally wore sandals) and she said "It did make a funny noise"...
I'm guessing your po heard similar noises at a much lower RPM...:Choke:

By the way, those of us in that shop back then (being younger and somewhat stupider) took both and V8 345 IH and a Ford 331 V8 school bus out to a shopping mall parking lot after hours ( yes, the local constable was even there) and pushed the respective engines all the way up to their governor settings and "double clutched" those New Process tranny's down into granny gear numerous times each and we never even got those clutches hot enough to slip.
The question becomes "how do you get an engine with a governor to explode those clutches and plates etc. driving kids around in 25 mph neighborhoods?" :bigthink:
I'm thinking your po might have the answer to that question :biggrin2:

and what's wrong with spreading gravels over the driveway by feeding them into blower? Or it won't work like a wood chipper? :biggrin2:

WOW the PO messed that up! I got a feeling that they did it more then once!

Mine looked the same way. Looked like the PO tried using mine to move some bricks!!! I ended up purchasing an auger/rotor from a vendor here and now it looks like new. Anything can be repaired if you have enough time/money. Maybe I should have bought one restored as it may have been cheaper that way. Oh well, live and learn.

The QA 36 A I just picked up recently looks just like that, as well. The sheetmetal is pretty good, just the auger was used for ????????????????????????
Im hoping I can straighten out the auger. :bigthink:

I know that from time to time, the city snow plow will come through our neighborhood and when he builds his snowbank in front of my driveway, it is full of big ice chunks because he was dragging his blade and making it hot.

treasures

Oh every machine gets some wear and tear, heck I make my living based on that fact. I'm a machine repairman for GM. But I found these little gems,,,,,,,,,errrr,,,nuggets,,,,errrr,,,,,,gremlin s tucked in by the chain tenssioner. Shoot, fellow could have left me something valuable in there! How come nobody grinds up diamonds with these things, wouldn't mind finding something like that in there, lol.:Choke:
