Loader install on a 1450
I picked up a loader tonight to install on my beater 1450. I have wanted a loader for a while and found one this weekend and just had to pull the trigger on buying it. My 1450 has not had a purpose since I picked up my 782, so it just makes sense to me to make it a dedicated loader.
The loader is in pretty good shape, It is a montgomery wards loader, but it looks identical to a johnson. It has kwik way cylinders and a dual spool from a JD 318 with float. It needs some new hoses, paint and some modification to fit my cub, but I hope to have it working in two or three weeks. Some questions: What fluid to run in it in the winter or all year? Does anyone have some literature on wards or johnson loaders? Recommendations on a pump to replace the factory cessna pump. I want something faster acting. Any input or info on foot operated hydro controls. I know there are alot of questions here but any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0910112203.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...910112202b.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...910112202a.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...822111808a.jpg |
Congrats and welcome to the loader club :beerchug:. Boy, it sure does look like a Johnson. Hopefully you won't have to do too much modifying. The bars going back to the rear axle look long, but you should be able to shorten them and put a bracket around the rear axle. What's the distance between the front brackets? Will the 1450 fit between them?
Overall, the loader looks to be in great shape! Congrats and can't wait to see your progress. |
Congrats and welcome to the FEL club! I'm really looking forward to your progress pics!

The rear tubes are really long and they will have to be shortened a bunch. The side brackets appear to be around an inch to close together. I enjoy the metal fabrication part of these jobs, but not looking to being covered in hyrd. fluid.

Congrats on the loader!
I'm with Josh, that loader sure looks like a Johnson. |
I have to say I like the idea for foot controls. Bobcat Loaders are a good place to start I would say. As long as you have to single valves, I think that will be awesome.:beerchug:

Congrats on your loader! Have fun with it! :beerchug:

Mock-up complete
Today I got the frame of the loader modified to fit the cub frame and the rear tubes shortened to line up with the cub rearend. Now I have to build the new bracket/supports that tie to the front of the frame and build clamps for the rearend. Then its on to the hydraulics and mounting the pump. Wow there is a lot of work left. Oh well it will be fun when its done.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...911111401a.jpg I know it looks a little crooked, but nothing is bolted together in these pics, just lots of clamps and jacks. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...911111353b.jpg |
When you rig up a new pump mount at the front, incorporate some braces for the loader stanchions. That should keep you from tweaking your new subframe.
