1250 deck pulleys, interchange?

Howdy yall,
I have a 1250 that I got with no mowing deck. Found one that fits - 44 in. My question is this... the motor clutch pulley is the narrow V and the deck drive is the wider V . Is this normal or did IH update to the wide belt later? Does anyone have an extra motor pulley that is the wide style? And, will the wide style mount on the existing clutch?
Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like you picked up a 44C deck which fits the 82 Series Cubs, that use a 5/8" belt. You can buy the correct center deck pulley from your local dealer or from our sponsors. Or you can post a wanted add in our Wanted section.

Along the same thought as micahw. I have a 680 that had a 38" deck which I replaced with a 44C 44" deck. The belt, 954-3003A is a 5/8 by 89 1/2 is called for in all the parts diagrams, CC and Partstree. Went to my dealer got the belt and found the belt was too long. Even after adjusting the "J" hook, there was way too much slack. I compared the drive belt from the 38 deck and the 44 and found they were the same length, different part numbers though. The main pulley is 6 1/2" on the 38". On the 44" it's 5". My question is, were these decks equiped with different pulley's depending on the tractor they originaly were attatched to?

belt

Would i not be better off puting the larger pulley on the motor, as it is stronger and would help with strech and slippage problems?

As far as I know you can't do that. Different PTO system. The deck pulley is what has to be changed.
