Brinly 10" plow fix
Picked up this plow a couple of weeks ago from a package deal off the auction site. Drove 9 hours round trip to get it.
So the crank and threaded tube was rusted solid. Heat, penetrating fluid didn't matter. Way too much rust on the threads deep in the tube on the other side of the threaded portion. So after breaking the rod a couple of times I decided to drill it out and clean up the threads in the tube. I had some extra 5/8" rod from making a driveshaft for the 100, but needed a 5/8-11 die to cut the threads. Man, I don't remember what kind of steel the rod was, but it took over 3 hours of working the die by hand to cut 4-1/2" of thread on the rod. I went a little different way with one of my plows.

Somewhere in shipping the box was damage and a few of the parts were lost. The adjustment parts for the plow point were in the lost parts. Brinly wanted $40 to $45 plus shipping for the parts. The set up I made cost under $20. The back part (one connected to threaded rod and standard) is currently being use on a 12 inch Brinly plow. |
That is a great way of fixing / replacing something lost.
Would it be possible to have a site created as to how to do such things that is not OEM ? I'm sure a lot has had to improvise and could be interesting. |

Dale, I actually considered something similar. But since I had the 5/8" rod already I wanted to try and make it look original. If the threaded tube strips out, I've got some 1" .093 wall tubing I'll flatten one end and weld a nut on the other end to use. I called Brinly before I did this and as you said, they wanted $18.95 for the crank and $23.95 for the threaded tube plus shipping.
