Tire chains
I went to an estate auction today and scored a set of tire chains for $6. They were the right width but too long. I put them on my tires and cut them to fit. They are perfect with little flat claws on the cross chains. I had not seen that type of chain before. Here in the Deep South we only need them a couple of times a year so they don't sell well. I live on a steep driveway and now that I have a nice plow I will be ready for the white stuff this winter. I also bought a set of the rear wheel fittings that allow me to use the old one inch hole, bar bell weights. They are not as nice as the molded in type but the old weights are easy and cheap to find at garage sales. They guy makes the sets and sells them on ebay for $69.

Don't throw away the cutoff ends! :bigthink:
Put those extra cross chains in between the existing cross chains to make the chains give even more bite and smoother ride!! I built a set of double cross linked chains once, they were sweet!! :biggrin2: |
Nice score. Those are called ice chains.

Save the cutoffs
Good idea! Thanks. I have about four of the cross chains and they attach with a bendable link so it should be easy to add them. You snow birds know all the tricks. The only chains I grew up with were anchor chains!
