Spring Assist on manual lift 169?
I have taken the IH spring assist off of my 108 and tried to put it on my 169 with a manual lift since my 108 is not ready yet and I wanted to try out my new sleeve hitch. I went to install it on the 169 but on the left lift bar the holes are in different places almost backwards of what is on my 108.
Any ideas why it would be drilled differently? I looked at the install paper on this site for the sleeve hitch and it lists the 129 and 149 which I thought was pretty much the same as the 169 except the engine. Is my only option to either not put it on or drill new holes? I dont plan to leave the sleeve hitch on my 169 so its not a huge deal but it would be nice if it fit. If I was I would convert it to hydrolic like it was supposed to be. Thanks Dave |
How about some pictures...???

I will add pictures this afternoon. Another idea I had was to make a adaptor plate that bolts into the holes on my 169 but then has the correct bolt pattern for the spring assist.

I have attached two images, the picture on the left with just the lever showing is the 108 and you can see where the old mount was attached. The other picture on the right is of a 169 where you can see the spring assist rod and the hydro rods. As you can see the bolt holes are different. I guess maybe a 1/4 inch thick peice of steel with some flush screws would allow me to mount it. Any other ideas are appreciated.

Looks like a factory oops to me. You may as well drill the correct holes in it so you can use it.

Matt thats what I was thinking, but I dont know how easy it would be to pull off that shaft. Is it just pop out the spirol pins and then slide it out, or something more involved.
I dont have a small drill otherwise I would just drill them out on the tractor. Maybe a friend has one. |
Borrow you friends 90 degree head drill!!:biggrin2:

Did you try to mount the spring assist to the holes that are there?

I tried to mount them to the holes that were there but it would not stretch that far and also when I move the lever it would cause it to bind if I mounted it that far ahead. I think I will need to drill new holes.
