147 - Fuel Petcock issues
I have a new to me 147. The fuel shut off petcock (above the bowl) is giving me problems. When I screw it in and shut off the fuel, fuel drips through the threads of the petcock. When I open it up to use the tractor, the screw is loose and vibrates partially closed. Is there a fix, or do I need a new one?
Thanks. |
I have had these need new packing behind the nut, if I am remembering the 147 correctly.
If there is a nut around the screw, try tightening it, then on to repacking. Or I'm sure you can get a plastic replacement. :biggrin2: |
Thanks for the reply.
Sounds like a picture may help. Here it is. What do you repack it with? http://i.minus.com/iEeL8jTb9Pfdu.JPG?q=0.101750504341 |
Had the same issue on my 147 recently. There's a cork washer in there. Tightened the packing nut on mine to near rounding it out and the seeping quit. From my research, a replacement needle set thru cub cadet would cost bout what a complete aftermarket sediment bowl setup costs. Seeing how mine is missing the screen and the bowl gasket is old dry cork too I may go that route.

Go to an ACE hardware or other hardware with a knowledgeable staff. Ask for valve packing. It looks like black string (it did "back then").
Wrap some around the stem, replace the nut, leak is gone. |
You can get a new rubber bowl gasket through Kohler for a couple bucks.

If you have one of these nearby, they have the gaskets too.
