Lazy Starting 127

Hello everyone, I have a 127 that runs great. So it used to start fast in the warmer weather, and it was slower in the winter. The tractor has new harness, battery and all the grounds are good and clean ! Now last winter was hard to cold start but after it was running and warm, would kick right back on first click of the key. Now even when warm, its super lazy trying to start. Charges fine but just seems not to be spinning fast. Our friend Lew told me to check the brushes etc in it. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and possible causes. Thanks Jason

By starts do you mean cranks ?

this is were a voltage drop test, starter draw test , and engine turning torqe test , battery CCA test are needed to isolate the problem (maybe not in that order )
Got another strong battery to jump straight to the starter ? possible the compression release inop

Make sure all the grounds are on clean bare metal. Battery to frame, engine to frame and possibly engine to battery.

cranking

Yes Slow cranking. i even tried to crank it with the jumper box on it and it was still slow. So the battery is not the issue. Grounds are all bare metal, and I also put a extra ground wire from battery to the S/G bracket. I am guessing its the S/G at this point

ACR

is there a way to check the ACR?

Check the positive cables, too.

I like to visually see things, and the only two ways to verify it is working is to pull the head or pull the valve cover and see if the exhaust valve lifts slightly during compression stroke.

grounds

well just redid all the grounds, and it does seem better, I had did this like a year ago when i did the harness and its kept indoors. Still does not spin as fast as some of my previous ones. I took the plug out and cranked it and really did nt crank much faster. Could be time for a S/G rebuild.
