147 Lift Motor

Just picked up a 147, the lift assembly was off the tractor and the plug terminal was cut off some time in the past. How can I test if the motor works, and if not can these things be rebuilt?

The motor for the Elec Lift option simply runs on 12VDC. Jumper to a battery and see if it works.
Reverse the jumper leads and it should operate in the opposite direction.

Thanks Roland, that is what I thought...there appears to be a short in the motor.

Can they be repaired? I have found them online, but $160 for the motor is a bit steep.

I have not researched the price and availability from Cub Cadet. You may try the Sponsors listed at the top of the page to see if they have a good used one.

As an alternative, that Elec Lift was made by a vendor called: Duff-Norton. See: http://www.duffnorton.com/

It was their model: MPD-6405

You may want to contact them and see what is available and where it could be purchased.

:bigthink:

As an additional thought, if the motor portion is bad (open or shorted) you may want to take it to a motor repair shop to see if it can be repaired.

If the motor is "stalled out" (dry bearings, broken gears, etc) you could dismantle the assembly & see what is causing the "stall". Most parts are still available for a rebuild.

I picked up the complete lift from another OCC member for a decent price, better than ebay anyway.

When it come to electric "stuff" I don't c know much, but electically this tractor is a nightmare so far. So I grabbed the ohm meter and turned it on so I get an beep when there is no resistance...

assuming the end-cap of the lift motor is "ground"
1) test the white wire to ground there is zero resistance
2) test the black wire to ground there is infinite resistance
3) test by "jumping" a charged 12v battery to white and black wires, it seems like it wants to turn but doesn't (and a couple sparks as I made and ended contact)

and one other question, if I get it working would this thing lift a QA-42A snow-thrower? Seems like that is a whole lot for that little motor.

With the two wires coming out of the Motor Housing, you should have no (or infinite) ohms on either wire to case (or ground). If you have any reading to ground, then there is a short to some degree.

YES....the Elec Lift will lift the snowthrower up.
