Creative mower deck storage
 

How do you guys store mower decks?

I have a 50" that is in the way, so I have temporarliy placed it under my Dodge Truck, which is also off the road for the winter. Anyone hang them, or have shelves for them, especially you guys with multiple rigs?

I can't hang it on the tractor, as we are restoring it.

I strap mine upright to a 2 wheel dolly and roll it over into a corner somewhere. This also allows me to remove the blades to sharpen, clean the bottom and grease the spindles all while being upright and easy to get to.

I never thought of that. I have 2 dollies, one if which is rarely used. Great idea.

I forget who it was, but there is someone on here who had decks hung on the side of their garage wall. I'd be willing to say it would be a 2 person job for the bigger decks, but they lay pretty flat and free up a lot of space like that.

x2 for the leaning against the wall thing. I own a small house that is good only for storage and the enclosed front porch has 4 decks leaned up against the wall. long way goes vertical. If a hanger could be made that would work well too, especially if there is any danger of kids knocking them over.

If you have the wall space, why not get one of them cheap pullies that are only 3 or 4 inches around and fasten it to the top corner of the wall, tie a rope to the gauge wheels or front skids and hoist it up that way and tie it off to a nice 4 inch spike in the bottom of the wall? Better than brauling with it to get it hung up like I do with my chain harrows every time I use them! They are out of the way but my back is getting to the point of not handling them. Thinking of trying it when I use them in the spring!

Most of my decks are stored on end,discharge down and I lean them up on the shed wall,others I have stood up on the wheels and put a 2x2 deck spindle under the wheels,then run a heavy wire with a hook screwed into the wall to keep them from falling .

This is what someone used. Can't remember where i saw it but they had several decks on one of these. Then just rolled them back in the corner. Just another idea. I do like Mountain Heritage idea, i might have to try a pulley system and heft mine up against the carport wall :biggrin2:
