Cub Original with 14hp Vtwin

My son and I are about a month away from assembling our nut & bolt sandblasted resto of an Original CC. We are repowering it with a 14hp Vtwin from a later model Cub - old meets new.

My concern all along has been how the original clutch and belt drive thereof is going to handle the extra hp. I have already ordered a 'cultivator spring kit' for it and am completely rebuilding and truing up the entire clutch assembly and shaft.

I'm wondering what you think may go wrong???

I have contemplated adapting B size pulley to the original A size clutch pulley but am unsure as to how the original lining will respond to the heat from welding?

I have also been thinking about the original 1.6:1 reduction and wondering if it is feasible to go to a 1:1 ratio to get a little more belt contact on the vtwin.

Finally, if it were your mod, would would drive from the flywheel side or output shaft side of the Vtwin? The shaft side crank has a ball bearing, but the flywheel side has a bushing....which is very costly to replace. We wouldn't be mowing or blowing with this tractor, just plowing, grading, tow/haul. I would like to put a significant hyd pump on the motor some day, but it could be driven directly from either side. Rear tires are lug style 23x8.50's.

Thanks for your input.
