2086 Quits running
 

Got handed the job of working on my nephews 2086.

Last year it started running bad, the neighbor worked on it and replaced one of the coil packs. A month later they replaced another one. Then it started out mowing a 150 feet and then quitting -- Nothing, no lights wouldn't crank over DEAD! Let it sit 30 minutes and it would start back up and mow another 150 feet.

I drug it home, from where it sat in the yard for the last year. Got it running today and have yet to make it quit. Tomorrow I plan on letting it sit and run till it quits or runs out of gas.

The only thing I found that in my mind could cause every electrical thing to quit was one lone circuit breaker on the front right side. Is this the only protection for the whole electrical system? A faulty breaker could cause this but I hate to put a new one in proclaim it fixed then have it fail again.

The only protection that I can find in the Parts Manual and Wiring Diagram, is a 20A fuse. I find no circuit breakers.

Sometimes just letting them sit and run wont cause the unit to heat up enough, run it against the gov.

Although in the case you stated it dosnt sound like it will make a differance.

Check you saftey switches. I know the 1018's were bad about breaking at the reverse switch, the harness is too short, and makes for an intermitant problem.

The circuit breaker does not look original. Either way if it opens nothing works then, Correct?

I actually planned on firing it up and well, since we have no snow yet mowing the grass. Neighbors will think I'm loony tunes but that's nothing new.

"IF" there was an Automotive type of Circuit Breaker custom installed on your tractor, then generally speaking, these devices reset themselves (Auto Re-set) after they cool down. They open on overload.

These automotive type of circuit breakers have different "trip values". Since the entire system was designed and setup to work on 20 Amps, then one would assume, that who ever installed that CB, installed the correct size. So, the possibility exists, that "maybe" a circuit breaker was installed that has a lesser valve then 20A.

There should be markings on the device, either inked or stamped, that would identify it. See what these markings indicate and post those findings here.

Man when it comes to electral its anyones guess what people do to them. Im probly the WORST at elect, and I build my own harness for my tractors. But some of the PO mods Ive seen on simple ones like the NF and WIDE frames, someone should have been shot!

Well mowed with it for 20 minutes, mowed the broccoli off ( after I cut the last 1.5 pounds out of it) Let it sit out here and run for another 30 minutes. :Huh: Who knows it was only 30 degrees here toady, may be cold enough to keep the circuit breaker from failing. Put the new on it any way. Took the deck off and put it away.

Monday I'll put the snow blower on and we shall see. what happens. About all I can do at this point

That's funny that nothing went south on you. Lets hope it doesn't rear it ugly head with 8 inches of snow falling. Man that would be as bad as breaking a plow pin on the truck.
