1862 hydraulic pressure vs. 1811

I am in the process of acquiring parts and info to put power steering on my 1811 I have the steering cylinder, front axle and steering valve out of an 1862 but am unsure of the hydraulic pump charge pressure and lift pressure of the 1862 and could not find a manual online to give me this specification. Has any one ever done this swap? Does adding power steering to a hydraulic system require more pressrue to run it? The 82 series manual listed in the manuals section here shows the 782 having a lift pressure of 500 psi to 625 psi and the 982 having lift pressure of 700 psi to 900 psi but the 982 does not have power steering. Is the extra lift pressure do to the heavier implements it uses? :bigthink: Thanks for any help or insight on this, Wally

It will work fine...the 1811 and 1862 have essentially the same hydro unit.

Thanks Matt, Will the 1862 hydro unit bolt to the 1811 rear axle or an older cast iron rear axle out of a 149/1450? My goal some day is to do like you did on your super and put a cast iron rear end in this with fine spline axles.

It would, but you would have to use a CV joint driveshaft from the 1862 as well, because the input shaft on the 1862 pump is splined.

Great, Thanks for the info now all I need to figure out is how to adapt the steering valve to the non tilt dash the 1811 has :bigthink:

I used a 300 series Deere power steering unit when I converted my 782 to power steering and it was a relative simple swap.
It lowered the steering wheel about 1" but other than that it worked fine, without changing the shims in the pressure relief valve in the hydro.

Thanks for the responses guys! George, what mounting brackets did you use to mount the steering valve at the bottom? Thanks

I mada a custom one from a piece of 3" "C" channel iron.
it was relatively simple or you could bend a "C" from iron
I used 2 existing bolts on the ross unit

Power steering

I am thinking of doing the same thing and was wondering if the existing steering spindle on my 1811 will be strong enough to handle the installation or would I have to get the beefed up one?

Check out extreme motor works and go to his 782 front end loader project it looks like he used the stock 1811/782 front end but put the heavy duty spindle upgrade he sells on it and braced up the steering arm part of the spindle when he added power steering to it. He also sells the valve mounting brakets.
