07 GT 2542 fenders split from seat

My GT 2542 is an 07 model with 149 hrs on it and I noticed the fenders had cracked right at the front edge of the lower metal seat supports. I only weigh 205 lbs and can see what a crappy design they have here. I welded the cracks up today but wandered if any of you had come up with a fix?

They all do that, poor design. Take the fenders off and weld in some big washers, thats what we do at the shop. Or find something to better renforce them.

Vince, I welded it up today. I wandered if using a solid plate under the fenders instead of the 2 plates would work better. Also I am going to cut and add a piece of diamond plate to the top side and bend it in the shape of the roll on top of the fenders. I will be down to pick up the parts this week. Scott

I help out at the local cub dealer, and have not yet seen this, unless it is just overshadowed by the 2500 hood problems.

TS

Not the hood problem, LOL I dont know why they made the hood that way. YOu get better access to te eng with the hood fliping up. I guess its a "better" design like the junky QL's were. :biggrin2:

Scott I wondered if it was you I was replying to.

Yep I had 2 new hoods right off the bat. This one has been on there for 3 years now knock on wood.

I had the same problem on my 2550. I welded the 2 plates to bottom of the fenders and filled down around the front side ( where the crack was heading) with my small mig welder. It seems ok so far.
