Northern Virginia Cub Cadet Mechanic

Sirs,

Is there someone in the Northern Virginia area that I could pay to rebuild my 1872's carbureator and tune up the engine? Are there any reputable shops?

The Walbro carburetor on your super is easy to rebuild. I would not worry too much about finding a reputable shop to do it, in fact, I would suggest doing it yourself if your throttle shaft is not too sloppy. That gets a little difficult. Most any shop that services small engines can rebuild a Walbro, they are pretty common carbs. And, unless they are totally inept, they should be able to do it correctly.

Why do you think it needs a rebuild and not just an adjustment?

I was told by a fellow owner that it probably was worth rebuilding.

Im not sure as to your mechanical experience but cleaning the carb is one of the simpler tasks or can be . I suggest you check out youtubes selections on small carb overhauls.
It just takes a clean bench ,good carb spray w/tube , safty glasses , patience ,good eyesite and ofcourse a little instruction. just be sure to not loose any part

A funny note 15-20 years ago my mom mowed her yard , and I stopped by for lunch from work . she was upset that the mower quit half way threw mowing. So after lunch I started to take the carb apart and saw the bowl was contaminated , a lawn boy 2 cycle. Mom was early 70's and not mechanically inclined, but had watched every thing I did she was kind of mad I didn't get it running then, but I was going to be late back to work already . when I came home after work the mower was back together , she told me she put it together but she could not get it to start. I looked and it seemed to be OK ,it started fine on the first pull.
