1572 update

Well I have been making some slow progress on the smoker. No pics at this time. Hydro oil and filter have been changed. Built a brand new battery box, the other one was rotted beyond repair, engine oil and filter changed, new bearings in the fan assembly, fan mounting bracket modified to clear the soft plug heater, dents in side panels hammered out and looking fairly well. The hood was hammered beyond repair so I took the hood from a 1204 and welded the gas cap hole closed. Newer fender pan ready to install. Have all new fuel line and new fuel filters to install.
Stuff left to do is build a new driveshaft and get the turning brakes freed up. I have all the new hardware to build a new driveshaft. The splined adapter that mounts on the hydro pump was shot so I acquired a splined coupling from a company called Hub City and will make my own pump adapter. The drive adapter that mounts to the engine was whipped also so I built a new one of them. Once I get all the bugs ironed out it will be getting torn down for paint. Still need a new fan belt idler pulley and in search of some good used atv tires for the rear.

What are the details on that coupling you used?

cubs-n-bxrs 01-15-2012 11:18 AM

Matt it is a 9 spline 5/8ths shaft size. It is a really nice snug fit on the hydro spline. Matt the Hub City part # is 0332-00027. I had Motion Industries order my coupling for me. They are the only ones around here that deal Hub City parts.

Very cool! I've got that saved for the next time I need to replace a coupler. Now we'll be able to make these after that coupler goes NLA.

Cant wait to see the pics! Sounds like your doing a good bit to it. Is this the one you called me about a few months back?

On another note are you going to try and come to Ft Allen this year? Boys and I are planing on going up this year.

Vince yes this is the 1572 I talked to you about. I decided not to make any deals with Ray W as he would just part it out.Yes Vince Ft. Allen is hopefully a go this year. So I am in the rebuild phase. Matt here is a couple pics of the coupling. It is also 2"long. It was $38 shipped to my door. It is long enough 2 could probably be made out of it.

I just bought a new 1872 splined coupler for my 982 and it cost me $150 and change.
