Comparable Models to the D600's

Just wondering if anyone knows of a comparable Kubota model like the 3 cylinder D600's? Would like to find one sometime...project tractor some day when I collect everything. Likely a pipe dream...but we all need to dream!

I talked to some pullers last summer. If I remember correctly, they were preferring the Yanmar's over the Kubota's . Something to do with the injection pumps. They also were saying the best place to find them is out of the cooling units for refrigerated semi trailers.

:HeadScratch: Really? I might have to look into that. Didn't think they had units that big on them?

Anyone know the average cost for a rad for one of these D600's (reconditioned I would assume would be more realistic way of buying)??

I looked for one with no luck. Rich Patton had one a while back that I missed on EB. I think it only sold for around $125. I think JD's use the Yanmar diesel in their older tractors.

Was told today that a D662 is an 18hp and would fit right in where a D600 was. Anyone ever heard of this? Also that the rad out of a Honda Goldwind would likely fit in instead of buying a high priced Kubota rad??

:HeadScratch:

I believe the D600,d640 and d722 are all one family.

People scrapping out sailboats often have atomic diesels, which are Kubota based.

Carb regulations in california have put many small reefer units on the market, Beware. these units can have 4000 hours.

Kubota industrial sales is an excellent source for manuals, and parts that CC no longer bothers with. They are better priced, and more important willing to help you get the part.

Caution with the Yanmars.

Some of the Yanmar Models do not have parts available as they are Gray Market engines.

Yes, Both John Deere and Cub Cadet use Yanmar engines in some of their tractors.

I recently had a Dawoo Skid Steer with a Yanmar engine. Needed to replace the pistons....Called every Yanmar dealer in the Midwest....Found out that Yanmar does not sell parts for that particular engine period!
No after market parts either. I suspect some of the Deere parts would fit but the prices were so high, $250/piston, that I junked the skid steer and it was in excellent shape.

THe 1772 or 1782 has a slightly larger engine and Kubota makes a host of diesels that are 4 cyl and slightly larger than the D600's.

The fuel pump is because the Yanmar is a completely separate unit and not one tht fits in a cast in place housing.
