Unicorn log splitter

3 Attachment(s)
Just picked this unicorn log splitter. Now I have 2 of them. These work great but they are just for show now. I would never use 1 for splitting real wood.

That is cool, my dad had one back in the 70's that we had mounted on the 3pt of his Ford 8N. The thing really worked great, we split tons and tons of wood with it. Then one day, my dad got wrapped up in it and it almost killed him. It went in the scap pile after that. They really did work great, but are a little dangerous if you arn't real carefull. It will make a great show piece. I wish I could find one here in Michigan.

I ain't runnin' the Unicorn!! That thing scared me close to death!!

We had one when I was a kid on an 8N too. Man that thing would bust some wood! No one ever got hurt but it was a miracle. That thing would run 500 mph and bust wood all over the place. Of course, my Dad had me running a chain saw (the ones that weighed 50lbs) that I could barely pick up too. And get this, he was head of the safety committee at the paper mill he worked at:bigthink:
I guess the phrase "ain't skeerd" and "he yaw watch this" was part of my life growing up:biggrin2:

It turns by the pto on the tractor and the cone is threaded. When you shove a piece of wood on it the cone screws into the wood, jerks it from your hand and splits it. There is a rest on one side that catches the wood and keeps it from spinning and allows the screw to got through.
If you are talking about the one in the picture of the first post, I think that one was made to use with a vehicle. You put the rear tire on the two rollers to power it.

Opps, I just realized you where probably talking about the lack of threads on the cone of the first one. How does that work?

Mike's has threads on the cone. You have to look real close and you can see them. Real hard to tell in the pics. Never used one. Really reminds me of the movie Puppetmaster and that puppet with the drill bit head .
