108 rattle noise

I was wondering if something in the clutch area could make my engine sound like it has a knock to it? Of course im not cancelling out that possibility either, but was wondering if it was possible? Im needing to go through and check out the clutch/ driveline anyway after it decided it like reverse so much it didnt want to get out of gear as it backed over my tool box. :bash2:

Does the rattle noise change when you use the clutch. Sometimes I get a little rattle with the clutch pushed in but it goes away when the clutch is released. There are spring clips that go around the three posts that hold the clutch pressure plate and clip to the outside edge but they seem to disappear. When we got our Original home it had a rattly noise that could have been coming from the engine or clutch. We took off the clutch and it was in need of some restoration but when the engine was fired up we still had the noise. We finally found it. The round screw on muffler although looking fair on the outside when tapped produces the rattly sound we were hearing if yours has that muffler or even another you may want to check that out.

I was thinking it could be. although when i get the chance ill look into it further. It had a bad case of back firing through the carb when it was warm and at WOT it would bog down and sometimes choke out, that was when i had the sickle bar on it. I moved the govener spring up one hole and it has yet to back fire since that hole wasnt egg shaped. But the rythmic rattle has been persistant and doesnt change pitch when running. I have noticed that my pto wear button is missing so maybe its from the metal on metal? :bigthink:

Those missing anti rattle clips in the PTO can make a person worry they have an engine problem. Once I know it is the PTO doing the rattling I quit worrying. :)

The pulley on my starter generator used to come loose and rattle. I used a lock washer to fix it. Wouldn't hurt to check that. Your clutch disc may be rattling when you engage the brake/clutch pedal. You can check the holes in it where it sits on the 3 pin driver.
