I need some help real bad. I bought a 2182 with low time a couple years ago. The person I bought it from said he thought the ignition switch might be bad as it sometimes required operating several times to get the starter to spin. Since this did not occur every time I used it, I did not look further. I parked it in my basement last fall and since then I have not been able to get anything to work. I did buy a new ignition switch but that solved nothing.

I need a wiring schematic that covers cub cadet 2182 model 142-743-100 s/n 825xxx. i have already discovered cadet no longer has main wiring harnesses available. The wiring harness on these models is apparently a weak link. there is a witches brew of wiring on this machine and without a complete electric schematic successful repair looks real uncertain.

Just some thoughts. I also have a 2182, and sometimes the switch on the left brake peddle wont engage so I need to wiggle the peddle to get it to start. Also a safety switch in the seat that might be giving you some trouble I hope this helps, Don

I have a 2084 that sometimes when I hit the ignition switch the Solonoid clicks but does not engage. A technician told me that nothing is wrong with the ignition switch or the starter. He suggested that I clean the battery terminals real good and make sure the battery is charged. It does seem to work but only lasts for a few months and I have to do it again.

I have had problems like the ones you described and it was almost always corrosion on a terminal. Once it was not even visible to my eyes but only when I wiggled it did it work. That is the easiest and cheapest fix to try first. Then if that doesn't do it go to the more exotic and costly repairs. A cheap little volt meter will help you with most of the testing necessary.

Typical cyclops problem. The wiring, all the plugs and safety switches are not very well made. There is also an updated wiring diagram with relays added for voltage problems. I have a schematic for it but it's a pdf and I don't know how to post it on here. You may have a typical Kubota starter problem. If you do, get one of the throw-away china starters off of evilbay for $80. If you need Kubota parts, don't buy them from Cub Cadet. The wiring on my 2182 was a mess so I just rewired it. Bit of a PITA because I had to move the engine forward just to get at the wiring between the radiator and the tower. I have a diagram but I won't post it on this site because I removed all of the safety stuff. PM me if you want a copy.

Start with the 3 safety switches - one on the left brake pedal, one on the seat, one on the pto switch. With the key held to start, sitting in the seat, brake locked down, bounce up and down on the seat a few times. Still in the seat, move the brake up and down a few times. Still in the seat, with brake locked down, operate the pto switch a few times. If no results, find the switches and check wiring to them.

As mentioned above, these tractors have a current problem with the starting circuit, my 2084 does the same thing but after a few times operating the key switch it will start. So, if you find all safety switch wiring looks ok I'd check the ignition to starter wire next, see if you can wiggle enough items to find an intermittant problem. Let us know what you find!
