Cub 169 questions???

Hi everyone,

I have a chance to trade for a 169. It runs, but isn't perfect. The owner can't find the motor id or it's been painted over. He did say it had 13 fins on the block. The muffler is not correct and it needs a gas tank. What else should I look for? What are 169 specific parts? It doesn't have lights either. Did they come with lights? It does have a hydraulic lift and part of a three point. I'm trading an original and a 126 for it. Thoughts?

Thanks

Stuart

My thought is go for it. If it has the 169 specific muffler (long, larger than a muffler like your 126 has), if it has an hour meter below the gas tank, if the engine has 10 headbolts, if the serial number has the four digits "0048", you should be set. If it also has the large thick air cleaner its definately a 169. Im sure im missing stuff, I just went through this a few weeks ago when I got my two. Even if its missing a few characteristics, its still a neat tractor since they made around 4000 of them. :beerchug:

They are highly sought after. What was mentioned above are the things too look for. :beerchug:

Make sure to do as Ryan said and count the head bolts. Other kohlers had 13 fins, K321 (14 horse), K301 (12 horse), etc had 13 fins. The 169 would of had headlights from the factory, but they are easy to find. Muffler, hard to find. Still a low production cub. What kind of shape is your Original and 126 in? Got pics of all three? Would be easier to give an idea of good trade versus ok trade. :biggrin2: Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi everyone thanks for the info. Here's a pic of the 169. My original is indecent shape. It was painted red at one time. It takes a v deck and regular clutch instead of the timed square deck, but I don't have parts to put a deck in it. The 126 is a salvage rescue. I'm going to put a 12 in it to get it running and that's what I'm trading.ill post pictures when I get a chance.

Thanks again,

Stuart

I see a little air cleaner and no serial tag. Starting to look NOT like a 169....

TheIHMan 03-29-2012 04:59 PM

If that's the correct air cleaner for that motor that that is NOT a 169. If that was a true 169 than I would trade but since it looks like it's not I would not trade.

I'm seeing too many things that says it is not a 169. If you can get the serial number that will tell the tale for sure.

The exhaust on a true 16 HP is also a larger diameter that other models. This picture is a 16 HP off a 169.

No way would I trade for that. That looks like a 129 with a 169 dash tower. The stripes don't even aligned up....probably why he wants to trade you. If it doesn't have a serial tag like this tractor looks then it is worthless as a collector piece. Way too much wrong with it.
