Pepto-Bismol
Hi, I drained my Hy-tran today and to my surprise it looked like pepto-Bismol!
My 2182 never sits out in the rain,so I can rule out water, so my guess it was a low fluid situation and has caused air to be mixed in. I only drained out about 5 quarts of hy-Tran. Any thoughts on this mess? Thanks, Don |
I just changed to oil in my 3 supers and they each took almost 2 gals. I'd say you were just a tad low. Change the filter and refill. See what's leaking. I'd probably cut the filter open and check to make sure you didn't hurt it running it low on oil before you put the new filter on and new oil in just in-case you need to fix something.

Did you put that oil in or did a PO use some other oil? Was it low on the dipstick?

PO changed the oil and Hy-Tran 4 months before I bought it. Hy-Tran was low on dip stick, but not beyond stick last I checked. I put 4 hours mowing then went to drain Hy-tran to find Pepto. I'm hopeing it was just low and foamed up to the pretty pink color. Nothing funky in the drain oil like metal flakes. Thanks, Don

I would pull the rear cover off and clean all the gunk out of it with a can of brake cleaner if you didn't do that. While you have the cover off I would jack up each side of the tractor and let the axle tubes drain. What does the oil look like after you drained it? Did it ever clear up? It's also a good time to check the bolts that hold the rear in place to see if they loosened up any.

I cleaned everything up, looks like no damage done! New Hy-tran/Kabota UDT fluid. Kabota UDT fluid is clear. Is Hy-Tran red like Dexron? I'm wondering if PO used Dexron instead of Hy-tran and it foamed up turning it bright pink! Tightened rear end mounting bolts, and now I'm ready to Mow again. Thanks for all of your help. Don

Hy Tran has a red tint. I'm wondering if the suction line was allowing air to be sucked in and maybe leaking while it was shut off. That would explain it being low and also the foaming. Let us know how the UDT works. It would make it easier for me if I could go with UDT since I have a Kubota.

Hytran is dark red and smells like medicine. Sounds like the PO put AT fluid in it to me.

The back of the UDT bottle says it is a direct replacement of IH Hy-Tran-B-6 ( not sure of the spec number, but it is the one CC recomends) And $5.92 a quart.
