Kohler S/G work on a briggs?

I bought an old allis chalmers b112 with a 12hp briggs and its missing the starter. I have an extra starter for my 149, just wondering if it will turn the engine over the right way. I read somewhere that some starters turn the opposite direction than whats on cub cadets.

Think I'd post this question in the engine section or PM Matt G

Those turn clockwise.A cub one turns anti clockwise...I got one from a ac for my log splitter. It was from a forum member for $15

As far as I know, only Cub Cadets have the CCW starter/generators. Everything else I have seen uses the CW ones, so no, you can't use one from a CC unless it is mounted in the same orientation that it is in a CC.

Its mounted on the right hand side, but is turned around(pulley towards the rear). Thanks for the help!

To avoid confusion, I'll word it this way, since 'front' and 'rear' are application-specific and can be ambiguous in this case: If the S/G drives the PTO end of the engine, the Cub S/G will work; if it drives the flywheel end, it won't.

It drives the flywheel end. The briggs sits in the allis the same way a kohler sits in a cub. I have a green(john deere?) s/g layin around, I'll see if it will work.

The motor on a ac is mounted like a cub one but the starter pulley on the motor is on the fly wheel side. The S/G needs to turn clockwise. You should look for the correct one, just my 2ยข.

S/G

I thought I read somewhere that the S/G could be changed to CCW or vice-versa

Yeah, probably in another current thread...the field coils and brush holders would need to be changed.
