2182 has the water cooled Kubota gas engine and a better drive shaft. Tilt steering wheel and sorry to disagree with the tin hood guys but I think it looks better. Yes the plastic is easy to crack, just be carefull. Just my 2 cents.:biggrin2:

Im fat and I fit better :bigthink:

I dont know to be honest, but Im really enjoying mine. Sold a load of green tractors today and getting ready to build another CI rear to put in the 2072. Then weld the frame fix the steering leaks, just routine P/O lack of knowalge. I think Duke said it was owned by a landscaper, I know how thos guys are! :biggrin2:

I like things made of steel too!

I will give a nod to the 3 cyl Kabota but the looks go to the 1872 for me. And yes it has tons of room behind the wheel.

To me you are asking 2 different questions.

1) Do you prefer an xx72 Super ('80's vintage) or an xx82-xx84 (cyclops '90's vintage) Super?

2) What engine do you prefer, a Kohler Magnum 18 or 20, a Kohler Command 18 or 20 or 22, a Kubota 21, or a diesel 15 or 17?

I don't mean to change your question on you, if it's simply those 2 tractors it seems to me you go with the liquid cooled 21 HP over a Magnum 18.

Everyone has their preference on style, I'd say more people here favor the xx72, but I know Sam and I and a few others really like our cyclops tractors. As for power, I don't think I'd buy a gas Super with less than 20 HP, but that's just me, I like the option of running the 60" deck and think the extra HP will help with that.

To me the hood is of less importance than the drivetrain. I like the CV joints over the rag joints, I like engines that you can get parts for, I like diesel power. I know a lot of guys love the KT’s and the Mag’s, they are smooth and have plenty of torque but they are obsolete, difficult to get parts for and at this stage in their age prone to having expensive problems. Just look at all the posts. I'm OK with the plastic hood but prefer metal. If I found a Diesel Cyclops with trashed plastic I'd buy it and replace the plastic with 82 series metal or do something like BC did on his. If I found a metal hood diesel I convert the drive shaft to the CV style. If you’re going to run a 60" deck from the little time I've had running them they don't seem to suck up power all that bad. I cut some grass yesterday that was about 18" tall with the 2284 and the 60" deck and the Kohler CH22 didn't even grunt. Just my 2 cents.

Sam
