782D Information Needed

I have run across a 782D. It has a Kubota engine and about 650 hours. What is the life expectancy of the engine if maintained properly? I thought the 782D I have seen in pictures had decals that say "782D" but this one just has "782" on it. I guess that is not important but I am curious about it anyway. It seems all original in good condition and has a 50 inch mower. Does it have plenty of power for the deck?

Not sure on the hours, think they can run for quite a while im sure someone else will chime in on it. As far as power is concerned those diesels have more than enough for any chore.

It will have tons of power for the 50 deck. At 650 hours it's just now starting to get broke in.:beerchug: I would expect with proper care you will get 5k hours before needing a rebuild.:beerchug:

Oh yeah,
That 782D will have plenty of power to run the 50 inch deck. The little diesels are nice and torquey. My 782D has a hair over 1000 hours and runs great. With proper maintanence, they'll run for thousands of hours. I agree with Duke, she's just broke in. Sounds like you'd better grab it up. :beerchug:

Well the diesels normally run a 60 inch deck, so a 50 is nothing, which by the way is the size of deck on my Big Red. Rarely do you hear the engine change it's tone when mowing even thru heavy grass. There seems to be more power there than you will ever be able to hook up and use completely. Also the Diesels "sip" fuel compared to gas engines. Almost cut my fuel consumption in half.

I bought mine from the dealer in 1998 and he stated that if properly maintained 4000 hours was what was expected. Mine has has 1610 and it does not use any oil. They will last a lifetime. I would rather have a old Cub than 10 new ones. I have the 50" deck also and it has plenty of power. I have the 1572 and it has the same engine as the one in the 782D. If I do not let the grass get too high it will use .5 gal of fuel per hour. If I let it get higher it will use about .75 per hour. The only thing close to a Cub Cadet with a diesel is a Cub Cadet with a gas engine.
