Question for a CC Guru

Which CC model would you say is best for a front loader and backhoe conversion? I'm picking up a 1250 in a couple of weeks and have seen it done on that model but is there another that would be a better fit? My father and I have been wanting to purchase a smaller backhoe for a while now but we are both very limited on finances. So both of us thought that going this route might be the cheaper way to go and at the same time be a fun project to do together. Thanks

I perfer hydro's for loaders. The 1250 is WF so that's going to give you more feet room and wider stance plus more room in the engine compartment. I'm sure CADPlans will chime in as he designs both.

Which model

I built one of Cadplans loaders and really enjoyed every minute of it. But I will re-iterate one more time that if you can get power steering you will be a lot happier. On soft ground with the bucket full it is a handful to steer these things without PS. One other safety warning is to ALWAYS lower the bucket, full or empty, when traveling. These little tractors do not have the width of some of the larger ones and tip over real easy especially while turning.

I was thinking the same, except I was curious if a model with a larger horsepower engine would be beneficial?

lol, Yes Indeed..We own a 1950 Ford Tractor and that thing is a handful to steer without a load in the bucket. The guy that built his on a 1250 added a power steering pump. He had to modify the engine compartment a little to fit it in but seems worth it. He used CAD PLANS from PF Engineering. Thank you both for the great advice. I can see how this really becomes addicting. I have been sitting on Craig's list every night go through all the new England states searching for CC's. Most are so reasonably priced and in decent shape that you want to buy them all. :biggrin2:

But is not really necessary for a loader. 12 hp will be fine.

I saw video on youtube of the guy with the 1250 loader/hoe. His seemed to bog down a little while using the backhoe. It's hard to tell from the camera audio but maybe he just needs to give it a little more throttle. Anyone else seen it?

Might be picking up a 1250 soon for the same use. I too was curious whether the 1250 could handle it or not.

"Bogging" NEVER occurs due to the backhoe at 12HP, unless you plumbed something wrong.

That size backhoe (or loader) never needs more than 5HP for the hydraulics.

You can always put on the wrong pump etc, but, I consider that part of the plumbing.

It may open the governor to get to 5HP, :bigthink:

i had a KW loader on my 782. had no problem with HP. steering it was the killer. i went to a super 1872 and thru a backhoe on it too. some time soon ill be switching it all over to my 1772.
